Mormon Church delivers stinging rebuke to BYU students
Source: CNN
Just two weeks ago, LGBTQ students at Brigham Young University were cheering after the school deleted a section in its honor code that banned "homosexual behavior." But on Wednesday, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints poured cold water on their celebrations after it clarified that same-sex romantic behavior is still "not compatible" with BYU's principles.
The announcement came in a letter penned by Elder Paul V. Johnson, the commissioner of the church's educational system. It was sent to all the students and employees at Mormon-owned schools, according to BYU, which tweeted out the letter.
"The moral standards of the Church did not change with the recent release of the General Handbook or the updated Honor Code," Johnson wrote. "Same-sex behavior cannot lead to eternal marriage and is therefore not compatible with the principles included in the Honor Code."

(3,741 posts)child brides, racism, polygamy, sister wives, incest and child rape seem to be the thing they uphold above all others ... they are not upholding morality by banning LGBTQ relationships, they are upholding "moral rot" is their default position

In reality Eternal Marriage is how Joseph Smith justified and organized polygamy.

1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many awives and bconcubines
2 Behold, and lo, I am the Lord thy God, and will answer thee as touching this matter.
3 Therefore, aprepare thy heart to receive and bobey the instructions which I am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same.
4 For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting acovenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye bdamned; for no one can creject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.
5 For all who will have a ablessing at my hands shall abide the blaw which was appointed for that blessing, and the conditions thereof, as were instituted from before the foundation of the world.
6 And as pertaining to the anew and everlasting covenant, it was instituted for the fulness of my bglory; and he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God.

Can we be spiritual and not have to give ourselves a frontal lobotomy at the same time?

(6,911 posts)I like the old Saints better. During the whole written account of his life and words, not once did Jesus mention or condemn a homosexual lifestyle. Not once.
Thats how the old saints did it. Its just the new saints who think they have improved upon what Jesus did.

(10,570 posts)Many law schools etc have pulled BYU from their listing. The church was trying to get back on those listings by having their bishops enforce this rather than the schools honor code. There is NO HONOR at BYU.
The Church is a cult.

But not much different than most other 'Christian' churches on the teaching of Jesus about divorce.

(11,949 posts)All of my friends are Christian to varying degrees. As is my wife. But on the rare occasion that I do discuss it with my friends, Christian all, normally at their initiative, I use the Mormons as an example for context.
They talk about the early witnesses to Christ and his miracles supporting it truth. Like Hebrew fishermen were literate enough to write the early books of the New Testament. Anyway, they all think the Mormon beliefs are crazy with the magic scrolls, Everyman a god, magic underwear and so on. I point out millions of people have no problem believing that and ask them to explain why it is anymore unbelievable than the whole virgin birth raised from the death thing. Fortunately my friends are introspective enough to chuckle about it all.
Most of the great people I have know are Christian and the few Mormons I know are good and honest people. I just cant lie to myself.
I do not have such discussions with my Southern Baptist family members. They would not chuckle!

(3,051 posts)Don't be Mormon.
Their religion is their business. It's certainly not my religion. Ergo, I don't care what they believe.
As a Jewish guy, I disagree with basically 97.8% of the USA regarding theology, and they disagree with me.
Learn to ignore and get along.
