JPMorgan says CEO Jamie Dimon recovering from emergency heart surgery

JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Jamie Dimon successfully underwent emergency heart surgery and is recovering, the bank said Thursday.
We want to let you know that Jamie experienced an acute aortic dissection this morning, JPMorgan said in a memo to bank employees that was obtained by CNBC. He underwent successful emergency heart surgery to repair the dissection. The good news is that it was caught early and the surgery was successful. He is awake, alert and recovering well.

Aortic dissection occurs when the layers of the wall of the aorta separate or are torn, allowing blood to flow between those layers and causing them to separate further. When the aortic wall separates, blood cannot flow freely, and the aortic wall may burst.
