Susan Collins doesn't 'understand' why voters turned on her. Did she forget her impeachment vote?

Maine Speaker of the House Sara Gideon, who leads the field in the states Democratic primary race, has 47% of voters support to Collins 43%, according to a new survey from Public Policy Polling. The poll, which surveyed 872 registered voters and has a margin of error of 3%, shows that 10% of voters are undecided.
It is the second poll this year showing Gideon neck-and-neck with the four-term senator, who won her last re-election race by a massive 36 points. Gideon led Collins 43-42 in a Colby College poll released last month, with 14% of voters undecided.
Both polls show massive movement from last year, when a June poll showed Collins leading Gideon by 16 points. They come after Collins sparked anger among Democrats and independents when she voted to acquit President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial, arguing that he had learned a big lesson from the proceedings. Collins later claimed that her comments were aspirational.

Collins told The Los Angeles Times earlier this month that she does not even understand why voters view her differently than her past races, which she won in landslides.
I am doing exactly the same thing Ive always done. Ive always cast votes with an eye to how they affect the state of Maine and our country, she said. I think Mainers will look at my record, remember who I am and where Im from.

(40,208 posts)It is amazing to me how these people manage to construct a bubble of delusion in which they are unable to honestly evaluate themselves.
I hope Susan Collins is humiliated in November. She deserves every bit of it for her disgraceful speech on the floor of the Senate in which she opined that Dr. Blasey Ford was mistaken as to the identity of her attacker.

(10,171 posts)Overall I think it like18% overall approval of how it does its job. Theyre in a bubble, maybe not as bad as Trumps psychotic one but dont get what is important to their constituents. Remember when McCain though the average middle class person made $250k and that was years ago. Of course Susan is a special case.

(36,775 posts)Susan Collins was a 'right time, right place' candidate...
She was in a three person primary race and so far back she could not even see the other two candidates' tail lights.
The millionaire candidate sponsored an investigation of the evangelist candidate who got run out of a southern state because he was boinking his twelve year old babysitter.
The millionaire denied his involvement but the public turned against both him and the evangelist, leaving Susan Collins as the sole remaining candidate.

(15,082 posts)By accident too. Everybody knew he was a jerk, but he was a Republican jerk, so Texas voted for him. Winning his second term is just more of the same.
Susan Collins needs to go.
And let's see what we can do about Texas, while we're talking about it. I would love to see John Cornyn tossed out as well.

Her impeachment vote just reinforced her lack of independent thought.

I am also sure the Mainers will look at her record and remember it when they vote in November.
Susan Collins should be planning her retirement right now.
