Coronavirus update: DC mayor declares state of emergency as cases in DC increase to 10

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said she is declaring a state of emergency and a public health emergency in the District, a move that comes after health officials announced a jump in the number of new cases.
Speaking at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Bowser said the emergency declaration is largely administrative and allows her to more easily request federal disaster, mandate medical quarantining and make price gouging illegal.
There are now 10 laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in D.C., said LaQuandra Nesbitt, the director of D.C. Public Health an increase of six new cases. The new cases indicate that person-to-person transmission of coronavirus is occurring, Nesbitt said. In addition, there are two cases that health officials are still investigating, because its unclear how patients contracted the virus, she said.

(20,172 posts)They did decide to cancel the rest of the rodeo today (it was supposed to go through the 22nd) but initially they didn't because it's primarily attended by locals. SXSW has people coming from all over the world.

(128,840 posts)My agency had international travel (they issued the travelers State Department passports when overseas for agency-related regulatory activities).
And of course there are the tourists - an issue that we have here in Philly!
