Seattle Public Schools to close for two weeks in light of coronavirus concerns

Source: Seattle Times

Seattle Public Schools will close for a minimum of two weeks starting Thursday, according to an email sent to school administrators Wednesday. The district later confirmed the news in a press release.

The email said the decision was made after conferring with county and school officials. It instructs principals to treat the closure as if they are going on spring break, and lists some guidance for going forward.

“We know you do not have time to do everything and we trust that you will do your best given the circumstances,” the email said.

The announcement comes after the district’s early move to stay open in an effort to make sure children don’t suddenly see a loss in services, including instruction and food for students who need it.

My niece goes to a Seattle Public School. Her mother is a Physician's Assistance and is...busy. And her Grandmother has been told to stay isolated.

She's a Junior in HS at a very small school. We only have 2 cases so far in our state, but we're close (enough) to NY, right next to MA - and we just have a small hospital here.

I do the carpool every morning and I DON'T want to have the kids in my car anymore. I want to hunker down for a few weeks, and see how this plays out.

I feel like me driving her to school puts ME at risk. My daughter is young, healthy - and will very likely be fine.

I'm not young, I am a little healthy - and will probably be fine. But I am sick of the anxiety. I want her to go to remote learning.

By the time they do that, I fear it will be too late
