NCAA cancels March Madness
Source: CNN
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced that the annual Division I mens and womens basketball tournaments have been canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
Here's what the NCAA said in a statement:
"Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I mens and womens 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities."
The announcement also means sports like golf, lacrosse, tennis and the College World Series would also be canceled.

NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors on Thursday announced in a statement they had canceled the events, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships.
The NCAA made the unprecedented move on Thursday, after announcing Wednesday that the events would be closed to the public. The spectacle known as March Madness, which was scheduled to begin next week, had been held every year since 1939 for mens college teams and 1982 for womens teams.

(2,654 posts)Now, if I could get our Mayor to stop blaming the press for coronavirus and shut down casinos (as Macau did) and all large assemblies of people for the next two weeks, I'll be much happier.
I feel the numbers here in Las Vegas are being kept low on purpose for the almighty casino dollars. My work said no work from home because there are "only" 8 positive cases in Clark County.

(19 posts)A pandemic in July means we have to miss a bunch of mostly meaningless baseball games... March madness is arguably the best sports event of the year for spectator mania.
Can't we postpone the virus instead?
(Relax all you DU 'holyer than thou' literalist, just a lame attempt at humor).
