New York (CNN Business)Amazon says the coronavirus outbreak has caused a surge in online shopping, and now the online giant is adding 100,000 new full-time and part-time positions across the United States to keep up with the demand.

The jobs will be Amazon's fulfillment centers and its delivery network.

"We are seeing a significant increase in demand, which means our labor needs are unprecedented for this time of year," Amazon (AMZN) said in a blog post Monday.

On Saturday, the company said customers could experience more extended delivery times than usual because of the high volume of orders as coronavirus spreads. The number of cases in the United States surpassed 4,000 on Monday.

and that's why he and his friends switched to driving for rideshares instead of the heavy lifting, packaging, and other warehouse jobs for Amazon. It sounds like they have high turnover but if jobs are tight, laid off people will be applying.

I found it comforting. The notice at Amazon's site said that those experiencing adverse employment effects from the virus-related situation should be encouraged to apply.

The ad was encouraging people to start up their own "delivery" companies to contract to Amazon Logistics.

My daughter worked at the corporate office as a Senior UI/UX Lead Developer and only lasted about a year. Was literally traumatized by her employment there, especially after trying to defend members of her team who were being let go for no apparent reason.

So it's not only the warehouse workers being abused! At corporate, the average worker barely makes it 2years. The culture is toxic. Lots of under-performing sycophants. And never go to personnel to file a complaint. Quickest way to get booted out the door.
