Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin in a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey urged that the Chinese government should be banned from the platform.
The two Republicans stressed that the Chinese government was using the social media platform to "disseminate propaganda" amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"While the coronavirus pandemic is afflicting families, governments, and markets around the world, the Chinese Communist Party is waging a massive propaganda campaign to rewrite the history of COVID-19 and whitewash the Party's lies to the Chinese people and the world," the GOP senators said.

Both pointed to the Communist Party of China's (CCP) obfuscation over the origins of the coronavirus in recent weeks, when Chinese senior officials alleged without evidence that the US Army "brought" the virus to their country.

Similar to other authoritarian countries like Iran, Twitter is officially blocked in China. In 2019, Twitter removed nearly 4,800 accounts, over 1,600 of which sent out 2 million tweets that frequently shared news content "with an angle that benefited the diplomatic and geostrategic views of the Iranian state."

I’ll just drop this clip of Donald Trump saying, "I have seen that where people actually liked, but I didn't feel different. I've always known this is a real—this is a pandemic. China’s handling of COVID-19 was clearly problematic. The country, very well known for its authoritarian control over media and public information, is reinventing history to mitigate their terrible handling of the public health crisis. This is a fact. Back when the Senate finally passed some legislation for coronavirus relief, Sen. Sasse joined Republican Sens. Jim Inhofe, Ron Johnson, James Lankford, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Tim Scott, and Marsha Blackburn in voting against the package. And Ben Sasse is historically craven, gaslighting American women everywhere during his vote to install beer lover Brett Kavanaugh into the highest court in the land.

Luckily for the GOP, they’ve figured out the best way to help Americans under economic distress is to follow Trump and the GOP leadership as it blows the racist dog whistle of xenophobia and blames others for its own impotency.

This is more noise hustle by Trump's henchmen, beta tested through Business Insider, echoed by Kos, to see how well different kinds of "cover stories" get believed before the summer political campaign revs up for Trump. Both sources benefit from increased ad buy with more clicks. This isn't just about what Twitter should do.

Business Insider doesn't have good capitalist news to report, so it floats frames from the WH; why, it's almost as if they're desperate to profit from public desperation, and eventually presidential favor if their distraction works.
