COVID-19: UN chief calls for global ceasefire to focus on 'the true fight of our lives'

UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged warring parties across the world to lay down their weapons in support of the bigger battle against COVID-19: the common enemy that is now threatening all of humankind.

It is the most vulnerable - women and children, people with disabilities, the marginalized, displaced and refugees - who pay the highest price during conflict and who are most at risk of suffering “devastating losses” from the disease.

The UN chief called on warring parties to pull back from hostilities, put aside mistrust and animosity, and “silence the guns; stop the artillery; end the airstrikes”.

“End the sickness of war and fight the disease that is ravaging our world”, he appealed. “It starts by stopping the fighting everywhere. Now. That is what our human family needs, now more than ever.”

Time to end the forever wars on the Middle East anos start helping our people. I am just sick that we spend the lions share of my tax dollars on war. This is the elephant in America’s Livingroom. Did you know that the entire year’s budget for NIH The National Institute of Health is equal to the cost of one aircraft carrier? Something is very wrong with this picture.

World-wide air pollution way down, too.

Humility comes the hard way sometimes.......

.......... ......

On second thought, nah. We're the most superior beings in the universe and the know-all, end-all, per the right-wingers. We'll be right back to cutting each other's throats, stealing one another blind, and polluting our air and water as soon as the virus subsides.

There are far more regions of active, and deadly conflict, than most Americans realize.

May the players in each and every one of them heed the call.

Perhaps some will actually come through.

We can dream.
