LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. A person under the age of 18 has died from COVID-19 in Los Angeles County in California, becoming one of the youngest victims of the new coronavirus in the United States.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced the juveniles death on Tuesday, saying that it was one of three new deaths in the county from COVID-19.
Tragically, one of the people who died was a person under the age of 18, a devastating reminder that COVID-19 infects people of all ages, said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, L.A. County Public Health Director.
The juvenile was from Lancaster.
The other two patients who died were between 50 and 70 years old, according to the department. One was from West Adams and had underlying health conditions. Officials say the other is from a location that is still under investigation.

Four more people, including a minor, have died of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, officials announced Tuesday. That brings the total of deadly coronavirus cases in the county to 11.
The L.A. County Department of Public Health only described the child who died as a Lancaster resident who lived in Lancaster.
The case is a "devastating reminder that COVID-19 infects people of all ages," said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of L.A. County Department of Public Health.
The city of Long Beach reported one of the four new cases on Monday, describing the patient as a woman in her 50s with underlying health issues. L.A. County officials on Tuesday said they were still working to confirm information about the two other patients.

(35,274 posts)You get 500 dead and 1 is under 18, it says something serious about the threat level for that group.
It's not binary, yes/full threat or no/zero threat. It's a sliding scale.
It's worth pointing out that the threat is there. But when 80% of the deaths are in the oldest 20% of the population, shouting about how incredibly dangerous it is when 0.01% of the deaths occurs in 20% of the population sort of misses the point.
Musk was wrong. Young people aren't immune. But their cases are much less serious with a much higher percentage of those infected showing any symptoms.
