Louisiana church packed for services again despite charges against pastor amid pandemic

Source: CBS News

Central, Louisiana -- Buses and cars filled a Louisiana church parking lot for another service Tuesday evening as worshippers flocked to hear a Louisiana pastor who is facing misdemeanor charges for holding services despite a ban on gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A few protesters turned out, too, including a man shouting through a bullhorn against those gathering at the Life Tabernacle Church in the city of Central, where pastor Tony Spell has been holding services. Another demonstrator held up a sign reading: "God don't like stupid."

CBS Baton Rouge affiliate WAFB-TV reported the service was jammed with hundreds of parishioners. The station said there were also dozens of cars on hand to see if anyone stopped Spell from holding the service.

Afterward, people began leaving the church, some chatting outside the front doors, and many appearing to not be adhering to social distancing recommendations to remain at least six feet apart. Hugs and handshakes were shared freely as people said their goodbyes and departed.

Thankfully not many churches are acting as stupid as this.

Our local church has, of course, cancelled all activities until further notice. Meanwhile, volunteers (my wife has been helping with this) are preparing meals and delivering them (individually) to low income families and those who are temporarily out of work. (Food is left on people's porch with no social interaction.)

Matthew 4 :5-7

5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “ ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ ” 7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

" ... the second is addressed to Him as such, asking Him to prove His faith by putting God's promise to the test. It is the temptation to fanaticism, which has been the destruction of many a useful servant of God Jesus refuses to yield, for yielding would have been sin. It would have been wicked presumption, as though God must yield to every unreasonable whim of the man, of faith, and so would have been a real "tempting" of God"

Its also in the OT - Deuteronomy 6:16 NIV

16 Do not put the LORD your God to the test as you did at Massah.

Just keep the blind faith that actual evidence shows to be total bullshit.

If they're going to be assholes about it, then after the service begins the national guard should erect a perimeter around it and not allow anyone to leave for 2 weeks, minimum.

In the meanwhile, we should all send dildos to the church to be sure they don't run out.

Years of republican forced public education cutbacks and deliberately fueled mistrust in science and the scientific process have helped contribute to stupidity like this.

I am sorry for what is likely going to happen to all the folks if/when there is a massive outbreak for the worshipers.
