Ohio lawmaker says she'll press crimes against humanity charge against Trump over hydroxychloroquine promotion
By Zack Budryk - 04/06/20 08:23 AM EDT
Ohio state Rep. Tavia Galonski (D) said that she will make a referral for crimes against humanity over President Trumps promotion of the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for novel coronavirus, despite its unproven benefits and lack of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

...............................
Trump has repeatedly promoted hydroxychloroquine, which is approved to treat conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, as a potential treatment for the virus, which the FDA said last week has led to a shortage of the drug.
At a press briefing late Sunday, the president recommended the drug despite limited evidence of its efficacy in treating the virus, saying "What do you have to lose? Im not looking at it one way or another. But we want to get out of this. If it does work, it would be a shame if we didnt do it early."
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci has reportedly been at odds with White House trade adviser Peter Navarro about promoting the drug, and said Sunday that its benefits remain largely unknown....................................

(35,280 posts)for the use of chloroquine from the strategic stockpile for certain patients. The requirement is that they be monitored and issues/outcomes reported back.
Off-label uses are fairly frequent and most people either applaud or condemn them based not on off-label use but what they think about the drug. When wife had child she had milk issues, rummaged, and found a drug mix that was recommended by some for increased milk production--two fairly safe drugs but used off-label. She got a prescription, found a compounding pharmacy, ordered the stuff produced for her use, and it was in her mailbox a week later.
Or take medical marijuana. It was a victory, many said, when it was approved for any one thing. Because off-label use made it available for prescription for anything. No issues there with "medical experiments on American human guinea pigs."

(21,264 posts)one thing that scares me about hydrocloroxidine is that it suppresses the immune system which doesn't make sense to me since I'm not a doctor. I kept waiting for Trump to say I know more than the doctors, I know he was itching to say it.

(9,958 posts)Everything he does is for his own profit. Given his tendency to project onto others the corrupt actions he is taking, I have to wonder whether his comment about medical staffs moving masks out the back door means that he has a group selling the masks and equipment bought by the federal government to the black market. Either that or he is hoarding them for red states. Or possibly doing both.

(21,264 posts)that Trump is killing Americans. More people need to be echoing that. Trump is killing Americans, there are a lot of reasons one can give. Aren't Schumer and Gillibrand from NY? I guess they are afraid if they speak out that Trump will retaliate against NY. It's sad the situation we are in now with Trump in full blown Mussolini mode.

- Kids in cages at the border.
- No flu shots for border refugees
- Allowing people to die when they're sick at the border
- Stopping immigrants from legally seeking asylum
And I haven't left Arizona/California border yet . . .

(69 posts)If it is determined that the combination of Hyrdoxyclohroquinine/zpack is effective, then this will be one more thing they use to scream that we only care about attacking Trump.
We should all HOPE that it's effective and wait for conclusive results before we start attacking Trump over it.

"Crimes against humanity" are rarely pursued against dictators who order wholesale massacres of people, not elected leaders who offer unproven opinions.
