Tim LaHaye, 'Left Behind' Author, Endorses Gingrich, Says Jerry Falwell Backs Newt From Grave

WASHINGTON -- South Carolina presidential primaries are always interesting, and on Friday, Newt Gingrich's campaign touted a new endorsement that certainly fit that bill.

The former House speaker was endorsed by evangelical author and pastor Tim LaHaye, who is best-known for writing a series of books called the "Left Behind" series, an apocalyptic vision of what some Christians believe will happen when true believers in Jesus Christ experience the "rapture" to heaven and nonbelievers are left behind for a period of "tribulation."

The 16 "Left Behind" books have reportedly sold 65 million copies and have been turned into three movies and three video games.

And yes, that's the actual headline, word for word.

Terrible writing, worst theology. Couldn't say enough bad about these miserable excuses for literature. Shouldn't be surprised LaHaye endorsed Gingrich, but I am a bit nauseated. And Falwell endorses him from the grave? I'd have thought Falwell would be in heaven, unaware of what's happening on this poor benighted earth. The one he left behind, so to speak. But who am I to question someone who has sold 65 million books. I have yet to sell one. Perhaps it's that "envy" thing Romney talks about.

Sigh...

Note that the last one is a parody of both the Left Behind books as well as Hal Lindsey's Late, Great Planet Earth series. The Amazon description of this book reads:

A parody of the fundamentalist Left Behind series, this humorous treatment of religion and politics criticizes the hypocrisy and greed of leaders of the American government and major political, educational, and religious organizations. Beneath the raucous humor lies a sophisticated examination of magical thinking and the End Times, creating a serious exposé of fundamentalist religious leaders from a secular, freethinking, humanist viewpoint.

So god awful it's good. Christ, I have to read through 16 of these things now? ( -_-') I really wish the movies and the games had done the books justice, but they failed miserably to capture the soul (boom-tiss) of the series. The movies had Kirk Cameron, so fail. And the games were apparently just complete trash; Peggle has more interesting gameplay.

While as a presidential candidate one would very much like to have the endorsement of God, or Jesus,...or perhaps in rare instances Oprah Winfrey... I do earnestly believe this too little, too late assistance from "the first dude" Todd Palin, and this Tim LaHayfever guy trying to save Gingrich from the jaws of deafeat , will in honesty, be of absolutely no factor. It seems as though attack muffin Gingrich's Garfield the cat like reflexes were far too slow...as he should have been seeking these endorsements when he was the quasi-front runner.

But now, gladly or sadly, America turns another page...the BIG MONEY has spoken... Mitt Romney will be the nominee. And it is Americans like me that stand in his way...crying, "NO!! NO!!! NOT THIS TIME MITT!" Fight! My friends! Fight! The vultures are closing in. Drink up your Sanka, and take to the streets if you have the guts.

I'm guessing that 'maylieze' was meant to be 'malaise'; but it's still pretty weird to take about 'the verge of malaise'. He also can't spell 'prayerfully' or 'religious', which is impressive for a professional preacher. Maybe he dashed this off rather quickly, in between counts of the millions he made off gullible fundamentalists expecting the Rapture any day now, for decades.
