Source: The Hill

Thursday marked a new record for coronavirus deaths in the U.S., with 4,591 people dying from the virus in just 24 hours.

The prior record was 2,569 deaths in the U.S. on Wednesday, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University.

The number of new coronavirus cases on Thursday was approximately the same as Wednesday, with 31,451 new confirmed infections across the country, according to the outlet.

There have been more than 671,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. since the outbreak began in China late last year. There have been more than 33,000 deaths. Around the world, there have been more than 2.15 million cases.

As Trump starts to encourage his supporters to go out into the street in protests, we hit a new record for deaths due to COVID-19.

corrected and updated the actual totals........

Most medical and scientific authorities still believe that the deaths, all over the world, but more importantly the U.S. have still been woefully undercounted.....

I think of the old adage: "You may be done with History, but history ain't done with you."

12. the high number includes deaths not previously counted that occurred over the past month.

As the CDC explained, four thousand plus deaths were reported, but they didn't occur in a 24 hour period. Over 3770 of them occurred in NY between March 11 and April 14 but had not been reported.

The Hill article is mistaken in saying they occurred in one day.

8. I see a number very close to that from raw Johns Hopkins data for the US that I get from github.

But there was a move by the CDC to include probable cases, and this may be a one time correction that includes all those probable deaths from prior days and weeks, inflating the deaths statistic for a single day. Not sure if that's what we're looking at here. We'll see if the number drops back down tomorrow.

They prefer denial, power, owning the libs more than being safe from coronavirus.

among his 50 Million Trumphumpers, is no different than him locking a bunch of monkeys in a room with a basket full of hand grenades. No shit.....Or, an even scarier thought, putting Trump in a room with the "football"......

And every last one of the RepubliCONS, in and around his administration, are doing nothing but encouraging him and enabling him to do it........

They are crossing OVER the threshold now folks.........

How convenient for them to hype deaths with inaccurate numbers, when in other stories they say that the media is distorting the numbers!

THEY ARE "THE MEDIA" doing the hyping and the calling out for the hyping, in this case!!!

I have no doubt however that the number of cases and deaths are not understated. They have to be by definition. We're not testing enough people and we DO NOT TEST dead people. So if there were 4,591 deaths reported Thursday, that might actually be more accurate.

11. I agree. I don't see numbers like that anywhere for Thursday.

If they want to project a number like that as what it more likely is, they need to say it's a projection.

15. That is helpful and it does NOT support the 4000 number.

It shows a huge jump on 4/14, 6185, as the extra fatalities being counted from the past month are added in, but the next day is down to 2618. Nowhere is there a number near 4,000.

It's vitally important that the news reports accurate figures!
