Recent polls have shown that President Donald Trump is actually losing support among older voters amid his chaotic handling of the coronavirus pandemic, and now the president is trying to reassure them that he won’t let them die.

In a Wednesday morning tweet, the president promoted the reopening of the American economy while also taking care to note that older Americans will need special protections.

National Journal columnist Josh Kraushaar this week examined polling data showing that former Vice President Joe Biden is now actually leading Trump among voters aged 65 and older.


“The latest Morning Consult poll found that 65-and-older voters prioritized defeating the coronavirus over healing the economy by nearly a 6-to-1 ratio,” he wrote. “And over the past month, they’ve become the group most disenchanted with Trump’s handling of the crisis. In mid-March, seniors were more supportive of Trump than any other age group (plus-19 net approval). Now, their net approval of the president has dropped 20 points and is lower than any age group outside of the youngest.”..............

Trump can't be blamed on any generation. The Trump supporters I saw manning the barracks for opening up the country were most definitely NOT Boomers. And let's not forget, as much as he would like us to, he did lose the popular vote.

That's a fact, shown consistently by polls.

Facts matter.

I personally know more Trump supporters among people my age than people my son's age. I know, as a rough estimate, the political opinions of close to 30 or 40 of my son's acquaintances. To my knowledge there are 3 who supported Trump and one of those very reluctantly.

Now there is a filter here, because my sons' peers are artists and scientists, my claim is apocryphal as opposed to a systematic poll. Irrespective of my informal accounting, clearly there are redneck kids.

Protests against quarantine and the people participating in them is also a filter, big time. Old people are frightened, and they are learning that, for all their carrying on over the last half a century that they are suddenly regarded as expendable, useless in fact, by the very people they supported. So it is a shocking revelation to them. It's not that they didn't support Trump, but rather that they have changed or are changing their minds, as evidenced by the OP.

My generation has been a disaster for humanity. That is very clear. We always want to place blame on the young, but we screwed the world up. Consistently we showed callous disregard for everything except money. We consumed most of the world's resources and turned them in to difficult to clean up wastes. We started and carried out oil wars. We partied like it was the end of the world, and in fact, there is a world ending as a result of our party and all that's left for future generations is to do whatever they can to sweep up the mess.

Like every generation, there are subsets of people with a lack of integrity and some of high integrity. This is true of the young people as well, but all I am stating that in terms of ratios, the ratio of people with high integrity to those with low integrity is higher in these young people than it is in my generation. Brady Sluter and the like, the focus on whom our media has arbitrarily chosen to represent young people, do not represent the young people, nor do the assholes marching in the streets calling for the spreading of disease. These people get attention because it sells newspapers, internet advertising, and TV "journalism" but their demographic is not the core that elevated this ignorant, senile, narcissistic, racist to live in the house where Abraham Lincoln, FDR, Harry Truman and Barack Obama lived. We, the members of my generation, are the core.

As I often say, history will not forgive us, nor should it.

Their aides may or may not be CV-19 positive. A lot of the aides work in more than one facility and may be transporting the Virus with them. A lot of aides have taken ill and the nursing homes are not only short-staffed but the remaining staff are walking Petri dishes. The seniors are sitting ducks.

So if you're a senior in a nursing home in Georgia, re-opening tattoo parlors, barber shops, and gyms are going to make things "safe" for you? Color me dubious.
