Gov. Cooper extends NC stay-at-home order until May 8 amid ongoing coronavirus threat

Source: The News & Observer

Cooper’s executive order was scheduled to expire on April 29. The move keeps only essential businesses, such as grocery stores and pharmacies, open. The restrictions, which also ban mass gatherings of more than 10 people, are in place in an effort to slow spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Dine-in restaurants, bars and movie theaters, plus businesses where social distancing is nearly impossible such as nail salons and barber shops, must remain closed. Restaurants can continue to offer to-go service.

“It is clear that we are flattening the curve,” Cooper said in news conference Thursday. “But our state is not ready to lift restrictions yet. We need more time to slow the spread of the virus before we can ease the social restrictions.”

Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen previously said they would base lifting restrictions on COVID-19 testing expansion, contact tracing and trends in data including deaths and hospitalizations.

Cohen said Thursday the trends show the state is not seeing a decline in lab-confirmed cases over the last 14 days, one of the benchmarks the state needs to hit before removing social restrictions.

I think they are right to do this. On Tuesday we had hundreds of covidiots protesting here in Raleigh at the State Capitol and the Executive Mansion (Governor's mansion) wanting to reopen everything.

We are still seeing triple digit increases in cases. Added almost 400 more cases to our total this morning. We have 7,608 confirmed cases in the state with 253 deaths.

But, as most dumfuk Southerners will tell you (and I'm born and bred Down South so I can talk) the virus absolutely knows the borders of states and cities, and won't dare settle down anywhere that folks are praying hard enough.

Greenville, home of Bob Jones University.
I still remember the town going into panic when Bob Jones himself warned us that the Russians were sending a submarine up the Reedy River to attack our fair city. People were absolutely freaking.

Oh and the Reedy River is this deep in Greenville. Perfect environment for a huge submarine to operate in.

South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia, all opening, we are Surrounded by mouth breathing covidiots. Thank God Virginia is no longer brain dead after ousting GOP control. Thank you Gov Cooper. Build that wall. I volunteer to be armed border guard. Some of the dumbest trump licking pricks in leadership in all three of those states.

our state is lucky to have a governor with brain power and the ability to listen to science. Unfortunately we have way too many idiot Repubs that want everything open NOW!!!! But they take their directions from that dotard in DC....
