Southern Illinois judge temporarily blocks Pritzker's stay-at-home order from applying to GOP state
Source: Chicago Tribune
A southern Illinois judge delivered a setback to Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Monday, issuing a temporary injunction allowing Republican state Rep. Darren Bailey to ignore the governors stay-at-home order.
The ruling by Clay County Circuit Court Judge Michael McHaney came in a lawsuit filed by Bailey, a Republican from the small town of Xenia, which challenged Pritzkers authority to issue extended stay-at-home orders under the states Emergency Management Act.
In seeking the injunction April 23, Bailey asked the judge to find that the lawmaker was irreparably harmed each day he is subjected to Pritzkers executive order and to enjoin the governor or anyone under his authority from enforcing the March 20 executive order against Bailey from this date forward.
It was not immediately clear what effect the temporary restraining order would have on other Illinois residents besides Bailey.

This is my state. Governor Pritzker and his team have been working so hard to protect us from the virus. Of course Pritzker is challenging it.

(36,750 posts)Do his fellow repubs believe it also applies to any similar type order from repub governors, no matter what the reason/emergency?
Surely they would.

(3,166 posts)Im soon to be 55 years old. I really dont remember reading stories about people suing the government for executive orders or things of that nature. Did I miss something? Is this a relatively recent phenomenon?
The whole idea of states suing to overturn a federal law (i.e. Obamacare) is such a strange concept to me, that I dont remember happening in the past. Dont Republicans hate those activist judges?? 🙄

(21,740 posts)Chicago and the beltway counties of course have the most cases, but the last numbers I saw had Jasper and Randolph ahead in cases per thousand residents.
Rural areas are not prepared for what is going to hit them.
Many do not take this seriously.

(70,076 posts)of course, pritzker went to court and stopped this nonsense.
apparently the order only covered the clown who sued anyway.
