End of Trump's social distancing rules spurs fears of virus rebound

Source: MSN

But as President Donald Trump repeatedly declares that “we’re opening our country again,” the inconsistent patchwork of state, local and business decision-making is exactly what could drive a second wave of the coronavirus — or potentially prolong the current outbreak.

Instead of the national campaign to get people to stay home, the White House is leaving states with a set of CDC recommendations. They aren’t binding, and they aren’t all specific. That could lead to unexpected spikes across the country — sometimes in new places that didn’t see a bad outbreak, but also in cities that were recovering, only to suffer a setback.

“It’s going to take a long time for us to really wrestle this one down,” said Anne Schuchat, the deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in a brief online conversation with a medical journal Wednesday. “The extent to which this [disease] is challenging, it’s hard to overstate.”

The U.S. death toll is still rising, often by 1,500 to 2,000 a day. It passed 60,000 on Wednesday, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker, a number that Trump had until recently predicted the country would not exceed.

This is confusing as all heck. It is one thing to end mandatory stay at home orders, but to suddenly end social all distancing? That is insane.

And he is in serious need of adoring crowds. Probably because he has no friends.

This is all about those damn MAGA rallies. He wants to declare victory in front of his adoring fans, and they will believe him. Despite that he'll get a lot of people killed in the process.

My college hasn't decided about fall classes but there's no way this doesn't explode the curve upwards for the next several months at least. Our Summer F2F classes are already cancelled. I'm going to try to move my six fall courses online with zoom. Got a lot of reworking to do.

10. CA will now close all beaches and parks..the Gov has the final word in CA, not Crazy Lump.

"Gov. Gavin Newsom will order all beaches and state parks closed Friday after tens of thousands of people flocked to the seashore last weekend during a heat wave despite his stay-at-home order, according to a memo sent Wednesday evening to police chiefs around the state."

And in San Diego...

"San Diego leaders said Wednesday that the county's stay-at-home order will be EXTENDED INDEFINITELY, as they lean on the state for guidance on reopening."

"The county will extend to order on Thursday, according to San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. In terms of opening up, as you heard from the governor yesterday, any jurisdiction opening up is contingent on the guidance and direction of the governor of California," said Wooten. "So we cannot open back up until the state gives the green light to do so."

In other words, CA says, "Fuck tRump!".

die off than the dinosaurs. Fewer MAGATS alive means more of us to vote. And hey, they are headed for this disaster by following His Orangelordship's advice. It's a free county, let them (although we hope they take zero Democrats with them).

is nothing short of genocide.

I can only conclude that Trump wants a second wave that will drag on through the summer in time to put the next election in doubt.
