Trump predicts 'spectacular' rebound as economy plunges

Source: AP

By KEVIN FREKING and JILL COLVIN

WASHINGTON (AP) — Trying to dispel economic gloom, President Donald Trump said Thursday he’s anticipating a major rebound in the coming months and a “spectacular” 2021.

While economists are warning of serious long-term damage as the country plunges into recession because of the coronavirus, Trump is predicting a strong fourth quarter thanks to pent-up demand.

“I think we can actually surpass where we were,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, while allowing he was relying on his gut.

“I feel it,” he said. “I think sometimes what I feel is better than what I think, unfortunately or fortunately.”

Either that, or $500 billion in corporate welfare will find its way into public stock.

Because eventually the economy WILL rebound. I mean that's what we all hope and rely on no?

Its easy to laugh at him now for being too early, and looking like a fool for it. But eventualy the hand of the clock will reach the moment when even the hardest hit States will start to open up more. And the numbers in the economy will rise.

And like a broken record, Trump will just say the same thing until it happens. A week even is a long time in politics. Not a lot of people will remember, or at least care, that he was so bullish early. Only that in September say, things are looking up, and the President is claiming victory, and that that was because of the great job he did. And with Trump, he will go beyond that, and claim he was right all along, and business should have opened up even sooner. If it weren't for the Deep State Dems trying to slow it down with unnecessary precautions for political reasons.

We can't let the public forget about his handling of this, and how many lives were lost because of that. That won't be easy.

Growth was still zero & inflation 5+% after 2 years. The tax cuts and massive defense spend with borrowed $ didn't even take effect fully in the first year.
After energy prices stabilized, the defense $ started getting recycled as consumption and some little tax receipt gains, the economy started looking like something.
Yes, it was smoke & mirrors, but it did not happen between May & November of the same year. Took much longer.

biggest shocks they and this economy has received in memory. In addition, millions of jobs have gone away or are in limbo land, and record unemployment checks are being written. Businesses are being slammed from the stay at home orders as well as no employees to run the businesses.

It's going to take quite a while to restore consumer confidence (and business confidence) being that you lied all though this whole CV episode, not once even telling the truth I suspect.

You have provided grossly inaccurate and perhaps deadly advice to some (drink Lysol, bleach, etc.) at your stupid 'press conference' (hint campaign event), that stink to high heaven and are totally worthless.

I advocated perhaps a boycott of this administration earlier in some of my DU posts (an economic one) to put the $billionaires and/or $millionaires, rump, his ignorant buddies out of business.

Although the CV was the cause of this 'boycott', it is doing the same thing that a boycott would do...it sent a strong and vibrate message to rump and his cronies that sure, you can attempt to bride us back to work under unsafe circumstances, but this won't work. Give us more money, more safeguards, etc. and we might, but otherwise, screw you. You screwed workers long enough. Consumers control 60% of this economy, remember this. The ball is in our court.

red don's Fed is pumping trillions into the markets--including buying stocks--to prop up the markets in order to try to re-inflate the bubble and keep it going until after the election.

If Biden wins, they'll let it crash, just in time for inauguration.
