Trump rips George W. Bush after he calls for unity amid coronavirus outbreak
Source: MSN
President Trump on Sunday took aim at George W. Bush after the former Republican president issued a call to push partisanship aside amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
In a three-minute video shared on Twitter on Saturday, Bush urged Americans to remember "how small our differences are in the face of this shared threat."
"In the final analysis, we are not partisan combatants. We are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God," Bush said. "We rise or fall together, and we are determined to rise."
In an early morning tweet on Sunday, Trump called out Bush for his failure to support him as he faced an impeachment trial earlier this year over his alleged dealings with Ukraine. He cited apparent comments from Fox News anchor Pete Hegseth, who asked why Bush didn't push for "putting partisanship aside" amid the trial. "He was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax in American history," Trump said.

I do want to compliment Democrats and Republicans who worked diligently back in 2005 when the bird flu came up. I was part of a group of legislators who worked with the Bush administration to make sure that we had beefed up our infrastructure and our stockpiles of antiviral drugs like Tamiflu. And I think the Bush administration did a good job of creating the infrastructure so that we can respond. For example, we've got 50 million courses of antiviral drugs in the event that they're needed.

Don't forget what individuals the W administration brought you:
Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz/Pearle/Powell/Condi/and a few hundred more...........
My friends in Europe tell me that there are several countries in Europe that both Cheney and Rumsfeld can't ever visit.
If they should happen to visit those countries, they would be arrested as they stepped off the plane, sent to the Hague for prosecution for committing International War Crimes.........

(2,690 posts)Had either of them voted against the war in Iraq, they would have been elected president. Kerry would have won, despite Republican traitors fixing the voting results in Ohio and elsewhere. Hillary would simply have beaten Barack Obama in the primary -- and maybe made him her VP? -- and had an easy time dealing with McCain and the small town fool he chose as his running mate.
But they both voted for the war. Because to vote against it would have invited attacks by the Right Wing of being soft on terrorism.
They both showed a kind of political -- if not moral -- cowardice that I can never excuse or forgive.
(Yes, I voted for both of them, Kerry in 2004, and Clinton in 2016. Because the alternative in either election was repulsive.)

"Tricked"? Fuck that, there were tens of thousands of us marching in the godamned streets.
Yeah, Hillary was better than Trump, and we voted accordingly, but I hope she and every other Senator and Rep who voted for it spend eternity hearing the screams of the innocent Iraquis we immolated, starved and blew up, the wails of their children, the crying of the families our soldiers left behind only to find out that their loved ones died, she, Kerry, and any other person who wasn't in the streets marching against that war should spend their entire godamned afterlife contemplating what they enabled. No fucking excuses; no one who voted to give GWB what he asked was/is any better than a pilot dropping napalm on civilians, just merely less batshit crazy than McCain or Trump.
Yeah, I voted for them, the alternatives were worse; losing a leg instead of dying of leukemia. Yeah, I voted 'D' in '04 and '16 (as well as of course in '08 and '12), but never forgetting that I was voting for bloodstained hands versus a crazy imbicile/
RVN VET71
(2,690 posts)My admiration for both Kerry and Clinton dissolved with that vote and it evaporated completely with their mealy mouthed excuses afterwards. "We didn't vote for the war, we voted to give Bush the authority we never, ever, ever thought he would use, to invade Iraq." Even though they knew Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and posed no imminent or even remote threat to us, even though they knew that, yeah, Bush would probably invade Iraq and, yeah, probably 10s of thousands of Iraqi men, women, and children would be killed in the ensuing slaughter, and, yeah, the resultant chaos would leave the Middle East in a much more threatening, horrifically dangerous state -- to the world! -- then it already posed.

Yeah, I vote blue, no matter who, but sometimes it feels like deciding to lose a leg instead of dying of gangrene. Depressing. just as this election; "Better than a sociopathic, narcissistic, paranoid shitbag reality TV star running a kleptocracy" is what we got.

In fact, sometimes their dislike for Bush rivals that of what is seen here. Of course on their side it's because they seem him as an evil globalist elitist who is buddy with the Obamas and Clintons. At least that is what I see on the internet.

If resentment concerning Donnies bad-mouthing Dubya lingers into October, it might inspire a lot of Texas Republicans to stay home. If the number of disgusted Texas Republicans is high enough, the great red capstone may collapse for the first time since 1980.

.............In an early morning tweet on Sunday, Trump called out Bush for his failure to support him as he faced an impeachment trial earlier this year over his alleged dealings with Ukraine. He cited apparent comments from Fox News anchor Pete Hegseth, who asked why Bush didn't push for "putting partisanship aside" amid the trial.
"He was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax in American history," Trump said.
The House impeached Trump last December for allegedly pressuring Ukraine to open an investigation into his Democratic political rivals. The president was acquitted by the Senate in February.
While Bush never commented publicly on the allegations and the trial, he and other members of his family have voiced criticism of the president and his policies.
The former president released the video as confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, continued to rise in parts of the U.S. The country has confirmed more than 1.1 million COVID-19 cases and more than 66,000 deaths from it.
Bush invoked the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in his message, noting that the U.S. has faced "times of testing before."
"Let's remember that the suffering we experience as a nation does not fall evenly. In the days to come, it will be especially important to care in practical ways for the elderly, the ill and the unemployed," he said.....................................

(14,173 posts)From 2001 - 2008 anyone dared to criticize our Commander in Chief for any reason was anti-American. He could do no wrong to his base. Lying about yellow cake in Africa, illegally spying on average Americans with the NSA fishing, and lying about WMDs, a dire recession, to name a few things. Just like Trump, they blindly, not just supported but, adored him, and vigorously attacked the attacker. Coulter was on her game back then. I remember one documentary at the time "Jesus Camp" I think, where they had a life size cardboard statue of GW Bush to pray to.
Then.....Obama gets elected. Partly because of GW Bush's policies, and suddenly the GOP turns on a dime. While Democrats are happy and want to see former D Presidents at their conventions, it was a noticeable absence that at their very first convention after 2008, Bush and Cheney were nowhere to be found Not invited. This after the last one where they had a huge stage with the Presidential seal, and Bush and Cheney were treated like rock stars.

(14,173 posts)It will, to a degree. But I think Trump will be a different animal than any other ex-President. They are now stuck with him. He will not go quietly into the night. And lord knows he's not going to spend his time helping children with AIDs in Africa, or build homes for the poor. Or immerse himself in self-indulgent art painting, that bothers no one else.
No, Trump will crave the spotlight still. If he is healthy enough, he will probably be the figurehead for a new media network to keep the MAGA "revolution" going. He won't even have to put up his own money. The Kochs and others will gladly finance such a big weapon to "own the libtards". With QAnon and InfoWars conspiracy contributors. And it will get great ratings because half will be watching in rapture at every word of their cult leader, and the other will be watching it to watch a train wreck. And the MSM won't be able to help themselves in highlighting it and re-broadcasting parts of it and discussing the shocking stores promoted on it for days on end.
Even if he doesn't set all that up, he will be tweeting non stop every day with more lies. Until the day he can't pick up a phone anymore. The "don't criticize former Presidents" that other former POTUS have adhered to, won't apply to him. And all this will especially happen if Biden follows Obamas "cap in hand" "we go high" approach and declare the new AG will NOT be investigating Trump anymore and that we all just have to "move forward". Which I suspect will happen.
