WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he now believes as many as 100,000 Americans could die in the coronavirus pandemic, after the death toll passed his earlier estimates, but said he was confident a vaccine would be developed by the year's end.

Trump alternated during a two-hour virtual town hall broadcast by FOX News between forecasting a rapid recovery for the U.S. economy and casting blame for the pandemic's spread on China, where the disease is believed to have originated.

The COVID-19 illness, caused by the new coronavirus, has sickened more than 1.1 million in the United States and killed more than 67,000 Americans, shut wide swaths of society, including most schools and many businesses. https://tmsnrt.rs/2w7hX9T

There is a model, and yeah, it's a model or predictive, that suggests reopening the states could take the death toll to about 220,000 or more.

He wouldn't mention that one, because that would indicate that premature reopening in the wrong way would be like telling the people who go back to work that they are expendable lemmings.

States like Florida are suppressing totals. They're particularly vulnerable with so many elderly there. Desantis has pulled a Trump and probably killed a bunch of folks there.

Many of those who do not die in the hospital are not being given coronavirus as the cause of death.

Some who die in the hospital may not be getting the virus as the cause of death- it could be pneumonia for example.

Those numbers won't like hit that because they're probably not tracking the recovered as well as the dead. But there are going to be a lot more Americans dying from those already infected and listed above.

But here's the problem: 27,000-30,000 are still getting infected daily that we know of. That is somewhere between 1,000 and 8,340 who will eventually die coming in daily.

And now, we have some states opening up and folks defying social distancing and masks and arming themselves to assail legislatures to get quarantines shutdown. So we're likely to see a boomerang in the numbers which may get worse than ever before they smarten up.
Trump is on target to kill more people per capita by mishandling this virus than most countries on the planet.

It will not be real to many people until a close family member dies, and then they will ask, "Why me, God?"

The rational thing to do to stay alive is continue to follow a routine that limits the viruses path into your body regardless of what other people do. You can recover from being broke. (I know this) you can't recover from being dead.

To save lives any treatment and vax MUST be provided for free with gov (and the richest 2% w/increased taxes) picking up the tab. Heck, as far as I'm concerned Trump should pay the whole damn bill (and serve jail time) for his part in all of the deaths that could have been avoided if he hadn't blown it off as nothing months ago (and continues to encourage his cult followers to do).
