IRS Wants Stimulus Checks Sent To Dead People To Be Returned

Source: Newsy

The IRS said Wednesday that any payments received on behalf of a deceased loved one should be returned back to the federal government.

The IRS is asking people who've received coronavirus relief payments on behalf of dead relatives to send that money back.

When the IRS began sending stimulus checks to millions of Americans as part of the $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package, it largely based the payments on one's 2018 and 2019 tax returns. Some of those people have died since filing those returns, but some households still mistakenly received the payments on their behalf.

There was originally some confusion as to what people should do if this happened. But the IRS now says they have to send the full amount back to the federal government. If the deceased person was married and filed their taxes jointly with their spouse who is still living, then only the amount belonging to the deceased needs to be returned. The agency also updated its website with instructions on how to send the money back, whether it was received via a paper check or direct deposit.

spouse who died a year ago. She won't spend it but she isn't sending it back either. She said Mnuchin can come to her door and request it if he wants it. She wants to be a pain to the GOP (civil disobedience I guess).

Does that include the resurrected, though? I mean, theoretically if they died and came back can they keep it or do they have to start from scratch?

Just asking for a friend who said that it may have been implied on the White House lawn by some white, blonde lady who talked rather triumphantly.

She died in hospice. So fast, within one week, we got a notice from our Fed Government, saying that we had to return her last SS disability .... that we had to return the $1,300 that she received that month. We sent the check back. With only one day left in the month so return the entire check? trump, mnuchin and all the fuckers that are running stuff don't give one rats ass about any dying American. DAMN THEM

The check/deposit you get in May is for the month of April. Dunno why it should be returned.

Right on the check, it has her name and then "DECD" which I feel means deceased. They're too stupid to think about what to do. We're going to send it back, but had thought about donating the money to some relief agency.

We have got to replace all those ass holes in November!!

12. Dead people don't have bank accounts and can't spend the money.

Meaning that the accounts are still active and some live person has taken money from a corpse that shouldn't have been given to the corpse, and gets to return it.

The IRS couldn't move fast enough. It was too slow. It was dragging its feet.

Now it's all "The IRS rushed. It tried to do things too fast."

You don't have an honest citizenry in a democracy, you can't have an honest government.
