5 people were injured during Texas shooting at a park with 600 people
Source: CNN
Five people were shot and wounded during a party at a Texas park that drew about 600 people despite local guidelines discouraging large gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic, police said.
The shootings happened Sunday night at Village Creek Park in Fort Worth, police said. Fort Worth Officer Buddy Calzada said fireworks were set off, and then witnesses reporting hearing about 30 rounds of gunfire, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Two of the people who were shot were in critical condition and three suffered injuries that werent considered life-threatening, he said.
No arrests have been made.

Looks like America is returning to normal.

(38,187 posts)that says, "America: x days without a mass shooting."
I sure haven't missed the mass shootings, but it just ain't America without hate crimes and mass shootings.

(8,311 posts)I would think had the bullets been aimed at people, more than 5 would have been injured, and more than 2 of those five would have been critical.
I suspect it was another gun-nut forgetting that what goes up must come down.
Of course, they've been protesting other laws, why not gravity as well? (Except, well, that it hurt 5 people, but I doubt they care...)

(1,568 posts)I live in Fort Worth, and over the past couple years we've seen a big increase in shooting deaths. I think Dallas also has seen an uptick that might even be worse than FW.

(64,995 posts)...do not cause life threatening injuries.
With no motive force other than gravity, the terminal velocity of a bullet is less than 160 mph. Terminal velocity. Likely it would actually be slower.
The bullet's mass is 10% of a baseball so the momentum would be that of a baseball going 16 mph. Because of the small surface area contacted, it would probably sting, but not penetrate the skin.
Those shots were fired at someone, not up into the air. Two victims are in critical condition. That's much more than a red spot on the scalp!

(8,311 posts)Pardon me for wondering if it was such stupidity, as it's not uncommon.
Either way, someone was being an idiot with a firearm, whether they forgot the law of gravity or were shooting at people intentionally -- still idiocy.

(64,995 posts)The concept of terminal velocity is not a theory.
This is the same type of debunked myth as the "penny off the Empire State Building".
The physics are abundantly clear.

(8,311 posts)It does.
At least, if you believe the CDC. And ya know, we're the website that's supposed to do that.

(64,995 posts)Clearly you didn't read it carefully.
This myth has been empirically tested.
It does not happen by firing up in a ballistic trajectory.
Geez, even Mythbusters did this test. They didn't invent it. They merely reproduced it.
The article from CDC says nothing about proof that gunfire in celebration was fired up.
If someone at CDC says that, they shouldn't be writing science releases.
It has been proven(!) to have insufficient force to cause serious injury.
That's not my opinion.
It's a physical fact.

(8,311 posts)You may believe it was debunked, but was your debunk debuked? Cuz my Googling says it was, especially after studies were done with cadavers.
I can throw more links at you, but as a Professor, I feel you are more than capable of educating yourself.
But there's a StraightDope article, there are literally organizations promoting campaigns against celebratory gunfire in other countries, etc. Heck, a Texas state Representative had to have a bullet removed from the top of his skull where it penetrated in 2017 from a NYE bullet.
And I don't know about you, but I've got some TV to catch up on. Take care, enjoy your Googling!

(9 posts)African american mass shooting, dont worry, the U.S. will shrug its shoulders and give a "well, it figures" and forget about.
No one will demand to know what type of guns were used
No one will call for an investigation into "how the guns were purchased"
No one will call for the type of guns used to be banned

(9 posts)They are generalizations. Dont be pedantic.
IN GENERAL, there is a lack of interest in shootings that are done by or inflicted on african americans. They certainly dont draw the concern or outrage that is generated when the shooter or victims are white.
