Secret Service signs $179,000 contract to rent golf carts in Bedminster, N.J., this summer

Source: WaPo

The Secret Service this week signed a $179,000 contract to rent golf carts and other vehicles this summer in Bedminster, N.J., according to federal spending records — a rental that in past years was made in advance of President Trump’s visits to his golf club there.

The golf carts are being rented from a private vendor, New York-based Associates Golf Car Service, which has supplied similar equipment to the Secret Service in Bedminster every year of Trump’s presidency.

The rental deal was signed Monday, went into effect Tuesday and lasts until Oct. 31, according to records posted online in a public database of federal spending.

The contract does not say whether Trump plans to visit the Bedminster club soon. The Secret Service also protects his family, and Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her family have already visited the club this year, despite stay-at-home orders in Washington and New Jersey, as the New York Times reported.

Rub it in. Extreme Luxury that taxpayers pay for and is flaunting it in our faces; it is an unnecessary expense right now.

That should be kept in mind. The cognitive dissonance of displaying elite advantages as we fall deeper into gross wealth inequality can only foster more dissent and confusion, which only helps to push people into alternative realities that they think make sense and some of that can lead to violence eventually, especially with the grave circumstances we are now seeing.

No job. Hardly any food. Starving kids. Can't pay the bills. Shutoffs. Evictions. Oh, $179,000 golf cart rental contract, no problem!? Those are what you would call bad optics.

Question: Does Fat Donnie plan to go golfing in the middle of a pandemic? That would be a great visual for a Biden campaign ad.

"Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her family have already visited the club this year, despite stay-at-home orders..." I guess the Trump children are impervious to the coronavirus, and so are the Secret Service agents who are forced to protect her. And you know that Ivanka and her brood aren't going to wear masks, right?

... what is the usual charge for a cart? Suppose you play all 18 holes with a friend who also rides with you.

$179,000 sounds like an awful lot to pay for IQ45 to play 8 times this summer (say, twice a month). But then it's the usual scam from him.

I'd have said $10-14 per round, depending on course.
The first # you found seems about right, because it would be $48 for a four hour round.
Since most people play way too slowly, it would take 4 hours to play.
I don't fully understand the 8 person thing. Courses are letting 8-somes play? (Two foursomes perhaps). Then, that would be $11 a piece for 4 hours.
Still, 10 carts (20 agents) is $120 a round. This number is 1500 rounds. That's nearly 5 rounds a day, 365 days a year.
Even if they need 20 carts for 40 agents, it's still 2.5 rounds per day.

Sometimes large groups will go out, mini tournaments or just a lot of friends golfing together. So yes, they would go out in foursomes (2-3 carts per foursome), but they would go one foursome after another.

I've just never heard of a course that discounts the cart for 2 foursomes. A 40 person outing, sure. Just different than anything I've seen.
Admittedly, I pay for cart privileges by the year, so the daily fee is mostly invisible to me.
Of course, now the course is open but walking only. So, we're not even using carts for now.

The biggest reason he wants the country open: Spring golf fever.
