Source: Associated Press

ABC News says veteran news correspondent Richard Threlkeld has been killed in a car accident.

The 74-year-old Threlkeld died Friday morning in Amagansett, N.Y., and was pronounced dead at Southampton Hospital. He lived nearby in East Hampton.

Threlkeld, who worked for ABC News from 1982-89, spent the majority of his career at CBS News, retiring in 1998. He was a reporter, anchor and bureau chief for CBS for more than 25 years. He covered the Persian Gulf War and the Vietnam War, the Patty Hearst kidnapping and trial, and the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.

He was a customer at an NYC store where I worked in the 80's, and, while many of the clientele were not especially polite, he was always a good guy.

Marking Ronald Reagan's last day as president on January 20, 1989, ABC's Richard Threlkeld accused the administration of "benign neglect" toward poor neighborhoods throughout the country.

Photo(s) of Ginsberg in about three years. We just rented Scorcese's fine film about Bob Dylan, and Ginsberg is often allowed to give his view of the times that were so inspiring to and inspired by Mr Dylan.

It will be interesting to watch the video you posted as well.

a great documentary. Scorcese is actually in talks with Bob about directing another documentary on Dylan.

Allen was really close with Bob in the 60s and 70s. He contributed to Bob's 'Rolling Thunder Revue Tour' and of course there is the sacred Renaldo & Clara footage of Bob and Allen at Kerouac's grave-site:

Here's the part that gets me. I never saw Mr Threlkeld but I've heard his name on news reports for years. Decades even. It isn't a name you'd forget. So when I read of his death I assumed he must be like 90 years old. Then I read the item and discovered he was only 4 years older than I am.

Jeezus I'm an old fart. Think I'll just go sit in my rocking chair now.

I met Richard in 1983 when I was a stringer photographer for AP/UPI. He like I was covering the funeral of the first artificial heart recipient Barney Clark in Seattle.

Wishing Richards family my condolences.

Just wrong. Seems like if you make it to 74 you don't have to die in a car wreck. Tragic.
