Amid a day of massive unrest in the United States, seven protesters were shot late Thursday night in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, according to local news outlets, citing a police spokesperson.
As most in the country protested the death of George Floyd, a black Minnesota man who died in police custody on Monday, protesters in Louisville also had the death of Breonna Taylor in mind.
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, it is unclear who fired the shots on Thursday. One of the victims is reportedly in critical condition. Video published by a local reporter on Twitter showed bystanders treating a victim before EMTs arrived.
"There have been some arrests, but at this time we are not able to tell you how many as the situation is ongoing," said a Louisville Metro Police statement to the Courier-Journal. "Information on those arrests will be available tomorrow through court records of the arrests."

I sincerely hope they were arrested, disarmed without incident, and thrown in a cell to be held without bail because they're obvious terrorists.

One person who was shot is in "critical" condition, police said. All of the shooting victims are civilians, according to LMPD.
+++
Shots were fired around 11:30 p.m. Thursday as hundreds of people gathered on Jefferson Street, near Metro Hall and the Hall of Justice. LMPD has not said who fired the shots. Police made some arrest during the protest, according to LMPD's statement, but the department did not specify how many. More information will be made available Friday.

Taylor was killed March 13 when LMPD officers served a "no-knock" search warrant at her home on Springfield Drive. Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency room tech and former EMT, was inside the apartment with her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker.

(8,806 posts)it wasn't the demonstrators shooting their own. That leaves only three possibilities:
#1 Police........
#2 Trumphumpers.......or McConnnell lovers.........
#3 All of the above
After similar scenarios playing out all across America tonight, WATCH OUT FOR TOMORROW......Trump, at midnight tonight in a tweet, is already encouraging further violence against demonstrators everywhere across the nation. Including sending in the National Guard to control the far left wimpy Minneapolis Mayor and the mayor's followers.......A "Call To Arms" for all his Trumphumpers across the land.

(14,489 posts)IMO would have punched tRump out if he had the chance. You could tell he was furious after a reporter read Trump's tweets but restrained himself before the press.
There's absolutely no excuse for a nation's top leader inflaming an already bad civil unrest situation. In addition, the City of Minneapolis police and fire have and entire region to protect, not just the area of protest AND they have to maintain vigilance regarding spreading of the deadly virus......not just put out fires and arrest protesters. Some people act as if the police chief and mayor can just snap their fingers and the National Guard will be on every street corner in minutes.
It sounds like the City's leaders are doing their best until the National Guard can establish security over quite a large area. The Mayor made it quite clear that protection of life was top priority, meaning protection of the public and firefighter and police lives.
We'll see how this disaster in Louisville plays out tomorrow. This is what news reports are saying this morning:
All of the shooting victims are civilians, according to LMPD, which said none of the victims were shot by officers and that is "too early to comment on suspects."

The Breonna Taylor murder was purely screw up. "No-knock" search warrant, in the middle of the night, was just asking for trouble, especially since it was a miscommunication between the cops. Not likely to have happened to a white family.....
