Source: Independent UK
John Cusack has been attacked by Chicago police after filming protests and riots in the city.
The Say Anything actor has been using social media to document the protests that have arisen in the city in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
The 46-year-old was killed after a white police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes, while Floyd pleaded for his life.
Peaceful and non-peaceful protests, riots and looting have occurred across the USA in recent days.
Cusack wrote on Twitter: Cops didnt like me filming the burning car so they came at me with batons. Hitting my bike.

(9,078 posts)making a mistake? He was trying to make a point about how the Palestinians are treated. He did it very badly. He apologized. That doesn't make him a piece of shit.

(2,592 posts)That's a sign that he is not being honest about the matter.

(9,078 posts)on Democratic Underground that were clumsy and read in a way I didn't expect. They were removed. Does that make me a racist? Joe Biden said something a few weeks ago that some said were racist. Why do we have to hold so many people fighting our cause to such an impossible standard?

(36,827 posts)So yes I think you can judge such things, especially when the offender falsely claimed their account was hacked by the alt-right before finally coming clean and admitting it was a fuckup while continuing to offer lame excuses.
Whatever you want to say about Cusack, it's pretty clear at least that one event was indefensible.

(9,078 posts)making a mistake doesn't make a person an anti-Semitic POS, as one poster suggested. We all make mistakes. If this is the only example, give him a break.

(36,827 posts)He admitted the cartoon was antisemitic, and the apology came after he tried to defend it and after the backlash was untenable. My claim was he could make his point without the antisemitism, which Im pretty sure even he agrees, albeit belatedly.

(28,461 posts)John Cusack is not 46 years old. Thats not even a typo. He was born in 66, which makes him 54. I hate sloppy reporting.

(3,231 posts)I thought Cusack was killed by the police while Floyd pleaded with them to save his life.

(47,370 posts)I think the age was referring to George Floyd, not John Cusack. I initially read it as Cusack as well.

(22,048 posts)He's made some really interesting movies that weren't box office hits, but very worthwhile watching (Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, Runaway Jury, The Raven). Several came from Stephen King books (Stand by Me, 1408, Cell). Everyone knows the biggies--Con Aire, Grosse Point Blank, among others).
He's been an activist for many Democratic and Socialist causes, and endorsed Bernie Sanders.
I like this quote, kick Trumps loathsome Nazi ass out of the White House and into prison.

(28,117 posts)"Stand by Me" are some of my favorite movies but I don't favor some of those biggies. And, of course, there's his light-hearted romantic comedy "Must Love Dogs" - gotta like that. 😁
For sure, he's a versatile actor. And his sister, Joan, has given some funny performances.
I didn't know for sure but would've guessed he's a big liberal.
