Watch Now: Chris Janicek won't quit Senate race; Democrats eye write-in candidate
Source: Omaha World Herald
Chris Janicek made it official Monday. Hes staying in the U.S. Senate race despite repeated calls from the Nebraska Democratic Party that he step aside.
Nebraska Democrats have demanded that Janicek withdraw since June, when it was disclosed that he had sent sexually explicit text messages about the campaigns fundraising director to a group that included her.
Janicek, an Omaha baker, faces incumbent Sen. Ben Sasse, a Republican, in the Nov. 3 general election.
There is a group of people who keeps saying you need to drop out, Janicek said at a Monday afternoon press conference. They say you need to let someone run who can beat Ben Sasse. I am the best chance to defeat Ben Sasse in the upcoming Senate race in Nebraska. Me and my team have spent the past two years campaigning.

(43,123 posts)If he were a Republican, would he drop out? No. He'd be given a macho male bravery medal and moved to the front of the line to burnish his dominant male charisma. Strong leader and male role model.
What about the guy who attacked the reporter? He's still in office.
I'm no judge of what to do about this. But it's like we're being victimized by our own ethical standards. Al Franken's no longer in the Senate, you notice?

(2,839 posts)If we had a functioning MSM that hammered and humiliated republican shitbags every time they did something egregious to the point of them resigning or withdrawing from an election, it might help to set a more equal ethical playing field all around. Republicans don't care. Acknowledged shitty behavior is treated like a badge of honor with them. In the case of Al Franken, his colleagues didn't have his back and jumped on the 'he should resign' bandwagon so they could appear to have strong ethical standards. It backfired because (especially in Kirsten Gillibrand's case) it later came to be known that all of the accusations and apparent evidence against him were dubious at best. Sen. Franken isn't a senator anymore, not because of any pattern of egregious activities or empirical evidence against him but, because he didn't want to become a daily distraction that the republicans would exploit to no end. It turns out that Al Franken actually left because he has the highest standards of all.

(6,164 posts)He was in trouble until this shit hit the fan, now he'll get at least 60% of the vote, even with his criticism of Trump.

(7,596 posts)I dont see the point of what hes doing at all. It was an uphill climb for him to win that seat to begin with and now his chances are basically nonexistent. Such a waste of money.

(26,044 posts)...but I'm sorry Sasse is going to apparently get a free ride this fall. (He's an alum of my college -- much to the dismay of lots of us -- and prides himself on being a "sensible, grown-up Republican" as opposed to the rabid Trumpers, but his voting record shows that he's merely Susan Collins with a Y-chromosome.)

(204 posts)to me he's running on the wrong side, here. If it walks like a shitbag, and talks like a shitbag, chances are it's a Republican.
