White House: Trump not suggesting voters 'do anything unlawful' in comments on voting twice

Source: The Hill

<snip>

In an interview on Fox News, McEnany said that Trump was telling voters to “verify” that their mailed ballot is counted in the upcoming November election when he made the remarks during a trip to North Carolina on Wednesday.

“The president is not suggesting anyone do anything unlawful. What he said very clearly there is make sure your vote is tabulated and if it is not, then vote,” McEnany said on Fox.

“Basically, when you get an absentee ballot and you send it in, there are poll books and it is recorded that you have in fact voted. And if you show up at a polling site, they look at the poll book and say your vote has been counted. He wants verification,” McEnany continued.

She went on to accuse Democrats of seeking a “whole new fraudulent system of mail-in voting” by trying to expand access to mail-in ballots during the coronavirus pandemic.

online that your ballot has been received and accepted. Going to a polling place to confirm the status of your vote defeats the purpose of mail-in voting and will only add to the delays and confusion at polling places. Trump is calling for voters to break the law because he doesn't want our system to work.

The above was for what became the "delayed until June 2nd" PA primary.

The one BIG issue that seemed to screw people was not "following directions". I.e., there are instructions about the 2 envelopes that are included. One envelope is for the ballot itself (to make it "secret" ) and the other envelope becomes the "outer" postage-paid envelope that will contain the ballot envelope, and has the address where the ballot would be sent. It also has a section on the back that needs to be completed AND SIGNED (for "signature verification" that would normally be done if voting "in person" anyway).

If these steps (putting the ballot in the "secret" envelope and/or completing the requested info on the outer envelope, including a signature) weren't followed, there was a good chance the ballot would be thrown out.

The local Chair of the Philly Board of Elections has been pushing to waive the requirement for that "internal" envelope to help speed up the process of counting but IMHO, we don't need anything that would generate manufactured outrage about security and secrecy of an incoming ballot.

The city did get gifted a $10,000,000 grant to use just for this election, which would allow for the purchase of more and faster counting machines and more PPE for workers, additional "satellite" offices for voter/ballot registration to include additional drop boxes, as well as helping to fund the ability to open up about as many polling locations as we would normally have had before the pandemic (more than 800 to cover 1692 voting divisions).

People should check for a "track your ballot" option in their own state. PITA if people come in and clog the lines.

Here's the quote, broken down:

"They will vote and then they are going to have to check their vote by going to the poll and voting that way"

He's clearly saying voters will have to check their mailed-in vote by going to the poll and voting again.

"because if it tabulates then they won’t be able to do that. So, let them send it in, and let them go vote. And if the system is as good as they say it is, then they obviously won’t be able to vote."

He's saying vote twice, and if the system is working properly your double vote will be prevented. He's leaving out the part where if you try this, you could be arrested.

"If it isn’t tabulated, they will be able to vote."

If your double vote ISN'T prevented, then it will count. In other words, if you commit a crime and get away with it, no harm no foul.

"So that’s the way it is, and that’s what they should do."

Finishes by explicitly stating that this is what people should do.

Our Secretary of State, who oversees elections, is a Democrat and she has been in office a long time.

Our governor is also now a Democrat (after 4 years of McCrory) and the governor has a lot of power over how elections are run.

Do these people just think that anyone can print off multiple ballots and just send them in? Or that somehow the mail-in ballots aren't verified in some way?

During the primary in my little town in the northwest corner of NC, someone came in to vote and they were accidentally given two ballots that were stuck together. When the ballots went into the box and were counted, the error was discovered and the extra blank ballot removed. Election officials know their shit.

Trump, very definitely, encouraged people to break the law when he suggested that they should vote twice—both absentee and in person.

I suppose this was an attempt at a “walk back,” but it doesn’t negate the fact that Trump incited blatant lawbreaking yesterday.

Tha black Woman in Texas that voted not realizing a conviction negated her right to vote? Doing prison. So if these N.C. Fools get caught, any chance they see a cell, especially white ones. Remember GOP North Carolina ballot harvesting? Trump loves to send his cult out to commit crimes for his advantage. When the President snd AG in our “Law and Order“ country encourage and incite felony acts for their good, the world sees American democracy. The kind we invade countries to allow them to have the same.

Thu Sep 3, 2020, 11:06 AM
Sep 2020

I was in the voter protection war room and an election judge called me and asked if trying to vote twice was against the law. A trump supporter insisted that he had the right to vote twice. We had a room full of lawyers and fed the election judge with the provision of the Texas Election Code that made it a crime to vote twice. This idiot was arrested and this arrest made the Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/12/01/0-000002-percent-of-all-the-ballots-cast-in-the-2016-election-were-fraudulent/

A man in Texas who voted twice. Phillip Cook was arrested on Election Day after voting twice. He claimed to be an employee of Trump's campaign who was testing the security of the electoral system. He wasn't an employee of the campaign — and the polling location's security worked perfectly well, it seems.

BTW, his second vote was not registered. The mere attempt to vote twice was a crime
