Sources Confirm Trump Remarks on Fallen Soldiers
Source: Politicalwire
President Trump denied in series of tweets that he had called fallen soldiers losers and suckers, as was reported in a blockbuster article in The Atlantic earlier in the evening.
The Associated Press, however, has multiple sources who confirmed the presidents disparaging remarks.

(50 posts)Dumbass threw a monkey wrench into Hillary's 2016 campaign eleven days before the election, while, astonishingly, making no mention of the fact her opponent's campaign had very suspicious ties to Russia!
I really hope to meet the moron someday. Whatever the fine, or the 30-120 days in the nearest county jail will be worth the enjoyment!

Joe Biden said Tuesday that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stopped the Obama administration from speaking out about Russian interference in the 2016 campaign by refusing to sign on to a bipartisan statement of condemnation.
That moment, the former Democratic vice president said, made him think the die had been cast ... this was all about the political play.

(14,876 posts)What NPR found...
...Former Vice President Joe Biden also has complained that the White House wanted Republicans to join in a bipartisan statement announcing and condemning the interference campaign. In Biden's telling, however, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., wouldn't go along.
But that didn't stop then-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., from alluding publicly to the Russian campaign in a letter to then-FBI Director James Comey. And Comey reportedly wanted to announce the active measures in an op-ed column, as Newsweek reported in March 2017. Two sources with knowledge about the matter told Newsweek that Obama administration officials blocked the effort.
There's no way to know what difference it might have made for U.S. officials to have confirmed and condemned the Russian interference in real time.
Obama administration officials have said they worried about appearing to put their thumb on the scales for Clinton. Combined with Obama's belief that Clinton would win, their political calculus appears to have boiled down to: Let's ride this out.

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, Why should I go to that cemetery? Its filled with losers. In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as suckers for getting killed.

Yet another, related, explanation concerns what appears to be Trumps pathological fear of appearing to look like a sucker himself. His capacious definition of sucker includes those who lose their lives in service to their country, as well as those who are taken prisoner, or are wounded in battle. He has a lot of fear, one officer with firsthand knowledge of Trumps views said. He doesnt see the heroism in fighting. Several observers told me that Trump is deeply anxious about dying or being disfigured, and this worry manifests itself as disgust for those who have suffered. Trump recently claimed that he has received the bodies of slain service members many, many times, but in fact he has traveled to Dover Air Force Base, the transfer point for the remains of fallen service members, only four times since becoming president. In another incident, Trump falsely claimed that he had called virtually all of the families of service members who had died during his term, then began rush-shipping condolence letters when families said the president was not telling the truth.
Trump has been, for the duration of his presidency, fixated on staging military parades, but only of a certain sort. In a 2018 White House planning meeting for such an event, Trump asked his staff not to include wounded veterans, on grounds that spectators would feel uncomfortable in the presence of amputees. Nobody wants to see that, he said.

I never called John a loser and swear on whatever, or whoever, I was asked to swear on, that I never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES.
President Trump, denying on Twitter tonight that he ever called Sen. John McCain a loser.
He was a war hero because he was captured I like people who werent captured He lost and let us down. Ive never liked him as much after that. I dont like losers.

(81,450 posts)In one account, the president told senior advisers that he didnt understand why the U.S. government placed such value on finding soldiers missing in action because they had performed poorly and gotten caught and deserved what they got, according to a person familiar with the discussion.
Trump believed people who served in the Vietnam War must be losers because they hadnt gotten out of it, according to a person familiar with the comments. Trump also complained bitterly to then-Chief of Staff John F. Kelly that he didnt understand why Kelly and others in the military treated McCain, who had been imprisoned and tortured during the Vietnam War, with such reverence. Isnt he kind of a loser? Trump asked, according to the person familiar with Trumps comments.
