L.A. area had record-breaking heat Saturday. Sunday should be hotter. Here's the forecast

Source: MSN/LA Times

The Labor Day weekend heat wave set new high-temperature records across Southern California on Saturday.

But the record books could be rewritten Sunday, with forecasters predicting another day of historic heat that is likely to be worse than Saturday.

Temperatures were expected to climb even higher in some places Sunday, reaching 119 degrees in Woodland Hills, 114 in Pasadena and 110 in Simi Valley, said David Sweet, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

“Some of these temperatures could be the all-time record for the location,” Sweet said.

These temperatures are insane. Just to reinforce that lives are at stake with the upcoming election:

Trump on climate change report: 'I don't believe it'

Asked outside the White House about the findings that unchecked global warming would wreak havoc on the US economy, he said: "I don't believe it."

The report found that climate change will cost the US hundreds of billions of dollars annually and damage health.

The Trump administration has pursued a pro-fossil fuels agenda.

The world's leading scientists agree that climate change is human-induced and warn that natural fluctuations in temperature are being exacerbated by human activity.

Last night at 9:30 pm it was 80 degrees but you couldnt go outside because of the smoke in the air.

Our power grid Is going to have some stresses on it in the next few days.

where much of the summer has been just below or far above the triple digit mark. We're usually in the 80s this time of year, but they're predicting 100 or above on Monday.

By Wednesday, we're going to be 40 degrees cooler with snow on the high peaks.

This year has been awful and it shows no sign of changing.

A lot of new construction has central AC these days. Swamp coolers still work, but I'd rather sit in front of a fan in 105 degree heat and be fairly comfortable than reduce that heat to the low 90s and be soaked with sweat from humidity. We had a lot of 105 degree days this year and many of them featured choking smoke from fires as well.

I moved here to be dry. My dad couldn't understand why I didn't want to move near them in Florida. Ha!

which is why I chose to live a mile up. The altitude generally keeps us quite comfortable, just a little swampy during the monsoons. We didn't really get a monsoon break this year. We got unrelenting heat, smoke, and slightly higher humidity for 3 weeks.

This is the worst summer I've seen here. Another one, I might make good my threat to move to the Atacama.

96 at 9 am. 103 right now in the shade. Usually you can add 30 to that number by 4 pm,normal rule of thumb. Noticed a wind switch about a hour ago, but, all bets are off.

125 out at death valley yesterday mid afternoon.

Hope that North Breeze picks up a bit in the next couple hours.

Otherwise it would hit 150+. And this is a day where Death Valley could hit near its all time high.

Here in Sacramento we are expecting 111 and that is 8 degrees higher than the dates record.

we have three thermometers, digital, located around the house. All in the shade, one under the Palms in the front lawn one on the North side, not hit by the Sun,and a third one on the covered Patio. The Patio unit will run 5-8 degrees higher than the Lawn unit. And that is due to Concrete and zero scape landscaping.

Ambient air temps between Grass Landscaping and xeriscaping is significant. We keep a loose record as the the variances and have been doing it for more than seven years.

I lived in Phoenix for ten years and Las Vegas for almost 3 years. It hit over 120 a couple of times in LV. When I lived there (84-86), the strip ended at Caesars Palace and none of the Super Casino's were there. It was a very different town than it is today.

Water district is paying 3 bucks a square foot for lawn removal. When that started back in 05 or so,the Turf Guy's would pull the lawns in Vegas and replant the sod in St George.

With each passing year since this program began, the average ambient air temp in the Vegas Valley has steadily increased and we in the last five years have set new average monthly high temps as well as overnight high temps.

Do remember when Caesars was pretty much the end of the line. Use to take a Dirt road from the Airport, believe it was Sunset to get to 15.

in January of 1916. In just 24 hours, the temperature dropped from 44 above to 56 below, a change of exactly 100 degrees.

The greatest rise in temperature in 24 hours was also in Montana, where the town of Loma went from 54 below to 49 above in January of 1972, a change of 103 degrees.

I'm in Lakewood and took a walk to the grocery store this morning, 8:30ish, I was sweating by the time I got home about an hour later and it was 81 degrees. Another hot one tomorrow, but by tomorrow night, I may need to turn on the heat and get the snow shovel ready.

I do remember a huge temperature swing, but haven't seen a 90 degree to freezing yet. Should be interesting!

and 85 in my apartment with air conditioning. The highs usually top out around 3 and 4 pm so I'm freaking out a bit.
The highest I've ever seen it is 113 so we have probably broken a record in our little micro-climate area here.

I'm just at the foothill/base of Mt. Lee where the Hollywood Sign is, technically part of the Hollywood Hills.

I slept 40 minutes because it was so uncomfortable last night and this morning. Not fun.
I will say I'm grateful it isn't humid.

The thing is... Milpitas is very near the bay... not all that far from the ocean. 30 or 40 miles tops.

It's 86 F in Half Moon Bay... which is warm for the coast.

It's been 104 here for the last 2 hours... don't expect it will cool off any for the next 1 to 2 hours.
