Coronavirus news: US daily death toll from COVID-19 shoots back up over 1,000

Source: ABC News

An additional 1,206 coronavirus-related fatalities were recorded in the United States on Wednesday, a nearly threefold increase from the previous day, according to a real-time count kept by Johns Hopkins University.

The country's latest daily death toll from COVID-19 -- the highest since Aug. 26 -- is still under its record set on April 17, when there were 2,666 new fatalities in a 24-hour reporting period.

There were also 34,256 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed across the United States on Wednesday, down from a peak of 77,255 new cases reported on July 16.

A total of 6,336,107 people in the United States have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the pandemic began, and at least 190,869 of them have died, according to Johns Hopkins. The cases include people from all 50 U.S. states, Washington, D.C. and other U.S. territories as well as repatriated citizens.

3 weeks later we will see a spike in the number of bodies piling up.

Now for the fall flu season accelerator.

Testing has dropped off even as reopening have accelerated with Trump once again leading by example when it comes to ignoring precautions.

Only at tiny bit of soreness at the injection site.

I signed up to be in a study for the covid-19 vaccination, but I don’t go out much, so I was rejected. They want someone who takes lots of chances on getting it. Makes sense to me.

It's usually in single digits, or low teens lately.

The state of Michigan website doesn't have the usual "*" explaining why the spike (eg records review) and they've blended these cases into previous dates on the graph rather than showing a spike for yesterday (which seems pretty suspect to me). But NY Times, Worldometers, etc show the spike on their graphs. The total death counts on all those sites is within a few of each other, which is normal.

I'm not sure wtf that's all about. I've googled around a little but haven't found an explanation. Local news (eg Detroit Free Press) just announces 13 deaths for yesterday which is what shows on Michigan's graph. So where are the other 60-something deaths coming from?

But it appears to be included in the increase discussed in the OP (corroborated with Worldometers numbers), so it accounts for 60 to 70 deaths in that increase.
