Schumer calls for Azar to resign over 'chaos' in coronavirus response

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday called on Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar to resign, arguing he has failed to stand up to President Trump in the response to coronavirus.

"It has become abundantly clear that the leadership of the Department of Health and Human Services has allowed perhaps the most important federal agency right now to become subservient to the president's daily whims," Schumer said on the Senate floor. "So today, I am calling on Secretary Azar to resign immediately. We need a Secretary of Health and Human Services who will look out for the American people, not President Trump's political interests."

The call from Schumer comes amid a series of controversies at HHS.

On Monday, the New York Times reported that a top HHS official under Azar, Michael Caputo, accused government scientists of plotting against Trump and told supporters to buy ammunition. Politico also reported that Caputo and his communications team have sought to edit important scientific reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

1. The fascists know the House has zero, ziltch, nada power & just laugh at the demands

because they know they will get their gov funding votes no matter how bad they act.

2. Why bother? No way is Azar going to resign.

The only way we'd see the back of him is if trump decides to fire him, which is highly unlikely while Azar continues to give trump what he wants.

Furthermore, if Azar does go, we can be sure that whoever replaces him will be at least as bad - and most probably worse.

I cannot see what use there is in making a demand that will be totally ignored. I think it comes off as weak.

3. He's doing his job.

Self censorship just normalizes the outrageous conduct of this administration. I think every Democrat and every sane Republican (oxymoron?) should call for his resignation, followed by Caputo.
