Ex-officer Brett Hankison indicted in connection with Breonna Taylor's death
Source: CNN
(CNN)The long-awaited findings of a grand jury probe into the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor will be announced by Kentucky's Attorney General Wednesday afternoon.
Attorney General Daniel Cameron's announcement comes more than six months after Taylor, a 26-year-old Black EMT and aspiring nurse, was shot to death by Louisville police officers in her home. The officers broke down the door to her apartment while executing a late-night, "no-knock" warrant in a narcotics investigation on March 13.
The grand jury was to present its report to Jefferson County Circuit Judge Annie O'Connell at 1:15 p.m., according to a statement from the Administrative Office of the Courts. Cameron's news conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Depending on the grand jury's findings, Cameron's options range from declining to prosecute to charging one or more officers.

A class D felony.

(92,116 posts)especially with the fact that it was a no knock warrant, and they broke down the door with blind shooting
I am sure they feel the charges are very inadequate

We (black folk) know how this country is. It's going to take many years to move this juggernaut around, although in the past couple months, it has at least been loosed from its moorings.

(789 posts)Class D Felony, maximum sentence is 5 years. And they wonder why people want to defund or in fact abolish the police.
The system as is does not deliver anything approaching justice

(3,660 posts)Is this is it? Just three counts of a bullshit charge against this one officer. You have to be kidding if you think this is anywhere close to justice.

This is just the Grand Jury indictment.
He just said that he's prohibited from making comments about any further action, however he all but said something else might happen.

(2,343 posts)politicians and the public on notice that there would be severe consequences for the wrong outcome on this.
The right people need to know there will be hell to pay if they go against us. Go ahead, nominate a Nazi to the Supreme Court. Let Durham indicted half of DC. Start lifting restrictions protecting us fro COVID. Be silent while cops beat up our fellow citizens.
Democrats need to let the other side know we have plans of actions when we get control again. And even without it, the quiver is full!
Think again before going against us!

(54,770 posts)I'm glad they got one on charges; but, the officers who went in were going in blind.
Such warrants just set up these type tragedies and should be avoided where possible. And they darn sure should make sure the address, etc., is correct.

(11,292 posts)and yet is considered SOP for many policing situations. And, given the prevalence of firearms (and LE attitudes) -- you have to kind of wonder if this changes any time soon. Unfortunately -- we're probably destined for more of this.

(35,293 posts)Police don't approve warrants--but they do make the case before a judge that the warrant is, well, warranted.
