Poll: Biden bests Trump with Latino voters by a 2-1 margin

Source: NBC News

WASHINGTON — Joe Biden leads Donald Trump among Latino voters by about a 2-1 margin days before the presidential election, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll.

The poll finds that 62 percent of Latinos support Biden, while 29 percent support Trump. In 2016, according to exit polls, Hillary Clinton’s margin of victory among Latinos was 66 percent to 28 percent.

Still, their engagement in the election lags behind other voter groups, which could be a warning sign for Democrats hoping to bank Latino votes for Biden and other Democratic candidates in key battleground states like Arizona, Florida and Texas. Sixty-seven percent say their interest in the election ranks a 9 or a 10 out of 10, compared with 87 percent of white voters and 80 percent of Black voters.

The oversample of Latino voters was conducted in conjunction with the NBC/WSJ national poll fielded October 29-31, 2020. The margin of error for 410 interviews is +/- 4.84 percentage points.

Machismo in some parts of latinx communities. Rap and hi I hop have a long history of positive views about gang and mafia bosses.

Trump has a unique appeal to those parts of those types of communities.

But if you think about it, they were the first to flee (Batista regime members who feared the new govt) and were the equivalent of the "1%", when in Cuba. It would make sense they would lean the turd's direction.

This is not the Cuban community.

This is primarily Mexican American. It's a very real thing where I live. The GOP has been working very hard over the past 4 years.
It's complicated.

The Cuban Americans voters in Florida have a different political mindset compared to other Latino communities and the Republicans have done an excellent job brainwashing them to think Democrats are socialist. I have seems very little campaign over the past year to counter this, but hopefully the Puerto Ricans who have recently moved here will take Biden over the finish line.

It's a good read about the diversity of Latinos. Around 30-40% are conservative for tax cuts, religion, pro-business, immigration, etc. And will claim that the situation now is different from when their grandparents immigrated. Regardless of race, some people who have been in the US for a few generations don't want newcomers coming in promoting negative stereotypes. It's like a crab-barrel mentality.

13. Racial identity politics actually lurk behind most of that

Republican Hispanics tend to be white/whiter Latinos, who absolutely HATE being lumped in with the more dark-skinned ones.

As much racial animus as there is in the U.S., you see, it pales in comparison with the intense and deep-seeded racism in most of Latin America - where social status and race (down to the shade of white) are intimately linked.

When they emigrate to the U.S. many inevitably bring that viewpoint with them (some more than others). Those that do, then in turn mostly vote Republican because it's "the white man's party."

To most Republican Hispanics, all these other considerations (politics, ideology, even economics) are secondary to - or at best a function of - racial identity.
