Prop. 16: Voters rejecting a measure to restore affirmative action in government agencies and public

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

California was poised to retain its ban on affirmative action for government agencies and public universities, with voters rejecting a ballot measure that would again allow the consideration of race and sex in state hiring, contracting and admissions decisions.

With votes still rolling in, Proposition 16 trailed 56%-44% on Tuesday night, with a simple majority needed for passage.

The initiative would overturn a ban that its supporters say has created a color-blind meritocracy in California and critics argue has prevented the state from eliminating obstacles that hold back women and people of color.

[...]

California was the first state to prohibit affirmative action in 1996, when voters approved Proposition 209 with nearly 55% of the vote. Eight more states have since followed.

since 64-65...to now with an amerikkkan espousing white supremacist ideology as a contender for this country's highest office, amerikkka has shown us so far at least 40% of adult voters are racist like an above-mentioned contender.

They see it as unfair since they are mostly excluded for working harder.

Since I get why many Asians oppose AA, working class Asians like the restaurant and convenience store families get screwed without having the privileges of wealthier Asians like the corporate/law/doctor families. It's arguably similar for working class whites vs wealthier whites.

It's bad optics though because it looks like Asians are rising up by stepping on other minorities like Black and Latino.

Many first generation Asian Americans have the same income level and live in the same neighborhoods as other minorities why would they vote to have other students placed above their kids?
