Pakistan Taliban leader reported dead in US strike

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Intercepted militant radio communications indicate the leader of the Pakistani Taliban may have been killed in a recent U.S. drone strike, Pakistani intelligence officials said Sunday. A Taliban official denied that.

The report coincided with sectarian violence — a bomb blast in eastern Pakistan that killed 14 people in a Shiite religious procession.

The claim that the Pakistani Taliban chief was killed came from officials who said they intercepted a number of Taliban radio conversations. In about a half a dozen intercepts, the militants discussed whether their chief, Hakimullah Mehsud, was killed on Jan. 12 in the North Waziristan tribal area. Some militants confirmed Mehsud was dead, and one criticized others for talking about the issue over the radio.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

Pakistani Taliban spokesman Asimullah Mehsud denied the group's leader was killed and said he was not in the area where the drone strike occurred.

I dont like the drones since they often misfire and kill innocents but if true this is could be significant.

...if you read it again while thinking about the possibility that 13 innocents or more were killed in the un-manned drone strike, even though it was on the other side of the world and not your country, and done without a trial or any form of due process, then it may make sense. If not, hey, you tried. Let me know, if one day they cart you off to Gitmo because of some idiot mistake, how happy you feel then. USA!! USA!!USA!!

Terror tactics, because evidently collateral damage is inevitable, so therefore acceptable.

How would we react if this were happening in our country?

War is a perversion no matter who wages it.

Being reactive in a war is not the same as waging war. And reacting to a war doesn't make war any prettier or less perverted. Ask the people who are forced to fight back.

Yeah. War is a perversion, and it's rarely fought by those who wage it. When was the last time one of our Presidents actually took up arms and lead the charge?

...and the army and police seemingly had no power to stop it -- but France was targeting Michigan Militia leaders with drones or cruise missiles?

Complicated question.

Really. It is. And no matter what Americans wouldn't put up with drone strikes on our people from foreign countries. So it's not so complicated.
