Lindsey Graham: If Trump concedes election, Republicans will 'never' elect another president

Source: The Hill

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) warned that President Trump should not concede defeat in the 2020 presidential election in part because Republicans will "never" be able to elect another president from their party again.

"If Republicans don't challenge and change the U.S. election system, there will never be another Republican president elected again," Graham said Sunday on Fox News. "President Trump should not concede. We're down to less — 10,000 votes in Georgia. He's going to win North Carolina. We have gone from 93,000 votes to less than 20,000 votes in Arizona, where more — more votes to be counted."

Every major news network and The Associated Press on Saturday projected Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 race for the White House. Trump has said he will not concede, alleging widespread voter fraud led to tens of thousands of illegal ballots being cast against him.

The Trump campaign has provided no evidence to back up the president's claims.

Maybe if they actual evolved along with the rest of the world and genuinely helped more than a handful of billionaires, they wouldn't find themselves falling off the cliff of total irrelevance.

I think it may be inaccurate to call the party that got the second highest number of votes cast in a presidential election ever to be totally irrelevant.

I am very glad that Biden won. I am happy that more people voted in this election than in any other in US history. I am distressed that almost half - 70million+ people decided Trump was the better choice.

Biden won, but that doesn't make the GOP irrelevant. The fact that down ticket races did not, in many cases, reflect a dissatisfaction with the Republican party means they are not going away.

We won. Yeah! But we need to keep a realistic view of what that means and not fall into hubris, thinking that now we have a mandate to push forward the Democratic agenda without resistance.

The White house was a tight race - one that is still not fully over if Trump decides to resist though legal and electoral means. The Senate is still up in the air.

We still have a long fight ahead. Lets keep that in mind.

PS - Not picking on you or your post in particular. I have just been seeing a lot of people voicing the same basic sentiment. Yours was simply the one that finally sparked my response.

It seems demographics and culture have/had been moving away from Republicans at lightspeed. So when you see a result like what just happened, it makes one question everything. We should understand. But I still don't think Republicans have a very solid longterm proposition.

McConnell, no doubt, has a well oiled machine down there, and they find votes as needed.
Yes, I accuse them of election fraud, and cooking the books just enough to get by.

I also suspect there was GOP election corruption in other places, but they still came up short.
There were just too many Biden voters, and/or potential Trump voters who've had it, and stayed home.

Repubs have a perpetual advantage with electoral college math. For POTUS, Dems, will always have to win by large margins to take the White House.

It took someone as low, profane, corrupt, ineffective, bigoted, and in every other way flawed as Trump to lose to a Democrat. And still it was a close vote.

A super clean, transparent, empathetic, educated and brilliant Democrat makes one misstep and dives in the polls for weeks or even months. But, an evil, homophobic, klan-tolerant Republican goes only two days without tripping over his dick - and he soars in the polls.

This country is broken. The high percentage of the vote that went Republican after all that has happened in the last 4 years proves it.

They know the American system for electing a president is biased towards them (electoral college), for electing the senate (smaller states have the same power as populous ones) and the House (gerrymandered districts, kept in place by the existing gerrymandered districts). And all that gives them a bias in the courts too, because they get to appoint more judges.

So when a situation comes along which should have been a landslide defeat for them, but the system protects them, they can't just say "oh well, maybe we should choose a candidate who actually cares about Americans next time"; they have to blame the system. They don't want Democrats to be able to point out the flaws in the system.

Citizens are infinitely more aware of how our democracy works. Think of what we didn't know even 15 years ago. The tools available to the minority to control the majority - Electoral College, money in politics, Senate rules, complicit stooges in the press, PACs and dark money.

So yes, I would say the Republican Party is in its death throes as far as the ability to elect presidents who thwart the will of the majority of the people. Knowledge is now power, and the truth shall set you free.

Stock markets do the same thing - the masses always lose, but we're starting to figure that out too. What will elites do?

The repub party was in its death throes after Nixon..... then Saint Ronnie stole the election from Jimmy Carter by making a deal with Iran to hold our hostages until after the election.

The repub party was in its death throes after Shrub ruined the economy. It took President Obama (and President-Elect Biden - I love the sound of that) years to get our country straightened out from that, but Moscow Mitch put roadblock after roadblock in the way and managed to keep anything substantive from being done in the final years. That, all the bullshit they threw at Hillary Clinton, and help from Russia gave us the nightmare of the last 4 years.

Nope, the repub party isn't in its death throes. So long as there are greedy rich men willing to cheat the system to get even richer the repub party will be alive and well. And greedy rich men will always have superior resources to game the system.
