Secret Service members asked about protecting soon-to-be-former president Trump full time in Florida

Source: ABC News

As states begin to certify election results that seal a victory for President-elect Joe Biden, even though Donald Trump hasn't conceded there is one clear sign his post-presidency life is taking shape: Secret Service agents in the president's detail are being asked whether they're interested in transferring to Palm Beach, Florida, sources have told ABC News.

The Secret Service's Miami field office also has begun looking at physical reinforcements to Mar-a-Largo, the president's golf club to which he refers as "the winter White House," the sources added. These moves are considered unofficial as Trump has yet to concede to Biden.

Trump, a longtime New Yorker born in the borough of Queens, changed his residency to Florida last year and voted there via absentee ballot earlier this month.

...

Renovations to living quarters expected to be occupied by Trump and first lady Melania Trump are underway, ahead of when they'll be living there full time after the Jan. 20 inauguration, sources familiar with the planning told ABC News.

I thought one of the conditions of the sale of Mar a Lago was that no one will be allowed to live there
https://www.politicalflare.com/2020/05/trump-might-be-in-big-trouble-for-registering-mar-a-lago-as-new-his-voter-address/

At the time of purchasing Mar-a-Largo in 1993, Trump signed agreements with the town of 8,000 that he was opening a club, not a residence. The town wary about new water traffic in converting Mar-a-Lago from a single-family residence to a private club owned by a corporation that Trump controls.

The agreement also bans members from using the club’s guest rooms for longer than seven days at a time three times a year. Trump’s attorney at the time, Paul Rampell, assured town council members that he would not live at the club.

The golf course isn't on the property of Mara-la-go, but I think that might be the loan that was at issue....a really long lease on the golf property. The article also says the Secret Service would be in West Palm Beach. Guess there will be a change in their upkeep.

Mon Nov 23, 2020, 06:11 PM

Trump's Palm Beach golf course is in West Palm, which is on the mainland. Palm Beach itself is a narrow island.

Interestingly enough, Trump Golf Palm Beach is a block from the airport (which means the sound of jets can distract you from playing your best golf), and the golf resort property wraps around the Palm Beach County Jail. Yeah Don, you really know how to make your guests feel special.

But no, Tikka is right: Trump can't live at Mar-a-Lago. The property is in a residential neighborhood, and rich people are serious about that shit. He received permission in 1993 to repurpose the property as a hotel, and the agreement is very clear: as long as Mar-a-Lago is a hotel, he may not reside there for more than three weeks a year, and no more than seven days at any one time. If he tries moving in with this agreement still in effect, he will quickly find out that his neighbors really do have money and they really do have lawyers on speed-dial.

My bet is he builds a new house on Trump Doral rather than fighting the Palm Beach City Council.

When the plans for the club, tennis courts, etc. were approved, it was approved as a business not a residence. He was limited to 3 day visits as a residence.

He got away with longer stays because he was POTUS. Town of Palm Beach may not be as amenable to this violation post presidency. They have more money than he does so his money, status will not be as prestigious in future.

And while I don't remember from back then, didn't we pay a shit-load of money to "secure" Bush's ranch (you know, where he "cleared brush" for just about 1/5th of his term, only to have him move to a gated community in town so he could have his studio to paint?

Lot's of details in all of this, I'm sure.

And I'm almost ready to OK a blank check just to get his fat A$$ out of OUR HOUSE!!!

This is the first -- and probably the last -- time I've ever posted in all caps. I think this is really important. Given how much Fat Donnie is literally trashing the WH and government -- including spy aircraft -- on his way out the door, stealing one of the most iconic items in the Oval Office would be child's play. He would take it not because of its value but because he knows it would piss off the Democrats.

Someone must be assigned to protect it so it doesn't end up on a moving van on its way to Mar-A-Lago.

The SS will have to rent hotel rooms from Trump at exorbitant rates. They will have to pay a premium rate for golf cart rentals every time he is on the links. When Trump flies his personal jet to and from rallies the SS will be charged at first class rates for the privilege of flying in coach seats. When Trump goes to one of his properties, guess who will rent the SS the cars they'll need to chase Fat Donnie around. Oh, and did I mention that Trump will get the money for every meal the SS eats at a Trump establishment.

Of course, Trump will argue that Melania will deserve the same SS benefits, and so do the kids.

By the way, Mar-A-Lago will have to be upgraded -- new carpet, new paint, new landscape, etc. -- to make it suitable for a president to live in. And then there's the golf courses at each of Trump's resorts, of course.

The grift continues.

What happens if Trump assaults another prisoner or a guard? Or Trump tries to escape?

Prison guards would need to physically restrain him, which can get rough. Or if Trump obtained a gun, they'd have to shoot him. I can't picture the SS just standing by.

I think they'd have a treat him like he was Dr. Hannibal Lector. Keep him in solitary confinement. To move him, it would require a strait jacket and a hand truck. Also a mouth guard mask, in case he tries to bite.
