Kemp to Trump: Georgia law blocks him from 'interfering' with elections

Source: AJC

By Greg Bluestein, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Gov. Brian Kemp’s office responded Monday to President Donald Trump’s demands to help him overturn Georgia’s election results with a reminder that state law “prohibits the governor from interfering in the election.”

The Georgia Republican has become a favorite target of Trump, who said Sunday he was “ashamed” that he endorsed him in 2018 and tweeted Monday that the “hapless” governor should use non-existent “emergency powers.”

“Georgia law prohibits the governor from interfering in elections. The Secretary of State, who is an elected constitutional officer, has oversight over elections that cannot be overridden by executive order,” said Kemp spokesman Cody Hall.

“As the governor has said repeatedly, he will continue to follow the law and encourage the Secretary of State to take reasonable steps - including a sample audit of signatures - to restore trust and address serious issues that have been raised.”

You needed to keep Kemp in as GA Sec of State to throw the election like he did for himself to become governor.

people need to get out in GA and vote - everyone who voted in Nov needs to show up in Jan. let republicans and trump cultists say whatever they want, just vote.

all this noise could be a ploy to depress voter turnout.

It didn't stop him from interfering when he was Secretary of State. Like most republicans, it is in their DNA to interfere in elections whenever they can get away with it.

Poor, poor Kemp must be really pissed off now. After being such a devoted kiss-ass to Trump all this time and then to get thrown under the bus because Trump couldn't get his way. These fools all deserve to be burned badly. They should have seen it coming.

facing the US. He will sell out anything he wants to make a profit, escape criminal charges and/or have his debts paid off. He is dangerous as hell. The founders never entertained, I bet, that a president would try to overthrow the election process and also sellout the country.
