Trump did consider deploying the National Guard to the US Capitol, New York Times says -- to protect
Source: Business Insider,NY Times
President Donald Trump considered using the National Guard to protect the crowd of his supporters who went on to ransack the US Capitol, according to The New York Times.
Citing his advisers, the Times said that Trump considered making the National Guard available to protect his supporters from counterprotesters.
The outlet said the idea, which he ultimately did not see through, came before Wednesday's events unfolded.
What began as a rally for supporters near the White House evolved into an invasion of the US Capitol, repudiated worldwide, which sparked a new crisis in the last days of Trump's presidency.

What a shame. Maybe they could have helped the Capitol police stop the mob of good old boys and girls from desecrating the people's house.

I had briefly entertained the thought that the presence of ANTIFA might have impeded the terrorists... but I see now that it would have been infinitely worse. I had not thought it possible that I could be more cynical than I was before 6 January.... I was so wrong. ANYTHING can happen.
I just hope that there are enough good people left in government to stop, identify and prosecute these bastards.

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered as follows:
Section 1. Purpose. One of the fundamental purposes of our Government is to ensure the safety of our citizens. ...
In particular, reliable reporting suggests that the movement known as Antifa is directly or indirectly responsible for some of the recent lawlessness in our communities, and has exploited tragedies to advance a radical, leftist, anarchist, and often violent agenda. In fact, Antifa has long used otherwise permissible demonstrations to engage in lawless, criminal behavior to further its radical agenda. ...
The Department of Justice has already publicly confirmed that actions by Antifa and similar groups meet the standard for domestic terrorism.
The violence spurred on by Antifa such as hurling projectiles and incendiary devices at police, burning vehicles, and violently confronting police in defiance of local curfews is dangerous to human life and to the fabric of our Nation. These violent acts undermine the rights of peaceful protestors and destroy the lives, liberty, and property of the people of this Nation, especially those most vulnerable. ...

Texas newspaper inaccurately describes Capitol rioters as 'members of antifa' dressed as Trump supporters
A newspaper in Tyler, Texas, on Friday described rioters at the U.S. Capitol as anti-fascists from the political left, but hours later it vowed to correct the characterization.
The Tyler Morning Telegraph, which serves the 107,000-population, 50 percent non-white city in East Texas, ran an Associated Press photo of rioters with the caption, "Members of antifa dressed as supporters of President Donald Trump climb the west wall of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday in Washington."

In reality, it was his supporters who stormed the Capitol with spears, and murdered a police officer.
