Black Lives Matter movement nominated for Nobel peace prize
Source: Guardian
The Black Lives Matter movement has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel peace prize for the way its call for systemic change has spread around the world.
In his nomination papers, the Norwegian MP Petter Eide said the movement had forced countries outside the US to grapple with racism within their own societies.
I find that one of the key challenges we have seen in America, but also in Europe and Asia, is the kind of increasing conflict based on inequality, Eide said. Black Lives Matter has become a very important worldwide movement to fight racial injustice.
They have had a tremendous achievement in raising global awareness and consciousness about racial injustice.

(6,911 posts)I would purchase a Pay-per-View production just to see his reaction if BLM won. It would be the Rodney King riots in reverse. And the final scene Donald turns to the camera and says, why cant we all just get along?
Theres your Emmy, DJT, the Nobel aint happening for you.

... and the Nobel Committee can select who ever they like anyway.

There are plenty of examples of nominees this year:
The amateur hockey team Kirkkoniemi Puckers and the Barents Hockey League are nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for their cross-border cooperation.
The World Organization of the Scout Movement have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for creating a lasting culture of peace in their communities.
And of course Donald Trump, with the best argument: "I don't see why he's any less of a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize than Barack Obama who got it before he even did anything."

(128,847 posts)Never thought I'd see the day when something as "simple" as 100+ year old white supremacist/confederate celebratory monuments (acting as daily reminders) would be removed from the seats of the confederacy and the last vestiges of the confederate flag that was a part of a state flag, will soon be gone.
Still a lot of work to do including one of the bigger prizes - breaking up the racist entrenched and intransigent police unions that keep the criminal justice system wildly skewed, cared for and fed in order to target and destroy black, brown, red, and yellow lives. The disparate handling of the Capitol insurrection and the savage thugs that initiated and participated in it, exposed that for all to see.

(54,770 posts)who try to keep things peaceful, even the ones that might support the protesters, get criticized. Sometimes its ugly too.
Hopefully, well return to protest like the 1995 Million Man March. But not holding my breath.

(58,785 posts)and the movement -- and its many, many millions of supporters -- fully deserves it.
We ARE already seeing real results in our new Democratic administration's commitment to equality and war on institutionalized racism and social injustices. The ideology has always been there, but BLM movement has provided a massive mandate for big goals.
