McConnell seeks to inflict political pain on budget votes

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Wednesday announced that Republicans will force Democrats to take tough votes on issues ranging from stimulus checks for illegal immigrants to higher taxes on small businesses when the Senate moves a budget resolution this week.
Well be getting senators on the record about whether taxpayers should fund checks for illegal immigrants
whether Democrats should raise taxes on small businesses in the midst of this historic crisis
and whether generous federal funding should pour into school districts where the unions refuse to let schools open, McConnell said on the Senate floor.
This is just a small taste, he added.
.................
The American people will see Republicans are focused on smart and responsible policies to reopen the country, he said. And theyll see Democrats who seem desperate to make their first act in power the same kind of massive, partisan, poorly-targeted borrowing spree that permanently wounded the last Democratic presidency right out of the gate.
The Senate is currently in the midst of 50 hours of floor debate on the budget resolution. Once thats done, the vote-a-rama is expected to begin Thursday.

(1,685 posts)McConnell starts down the road with the usual cheapskate bullshit that the Republican party is known for, Chuck Schumer needs to get on the horn right away and blast back at him and remind him and the Republicans that the Democrats have always done better as far as GDP and other measurements of the economy, when theyre in power and the only thing Republicans ever accomplish is to take care of the 1% and fuck everybody else.

If I were a senator, I might introduce a bill to deny stimulus payments to q-anon believers. Rs can go on record supporting those kooks.

You are incorrect. I have worked with countless illegals in the garment business in Los Angeles.
Every one of them has a social security card. I personally know a half dozen places to buy one in downtown and surrounding areas.

(19,233 posts)Stolen from but still linked to US citizens, not the immigrants. So any stimulus money would go to the legal holder of said SS number, not an illegal immigrant.

(13,590 posts)Stimulus passes and it works wonders. Economy immediately improves because almost all of that money will be spent immediately. Vaccines are distributed properly because there is funding for it, pandemic wanes, businesses can reopen, economy further improves. People realize that government actually works when the sadistic, greedy and unamerican republicans are shoved aside. "Austerity" was always a scam.

(12,265 posts)I noticed this mornign that Morning Joe was back on the bandwagon saying McConnell was seeing the light. Nope, he isn't, he needs the moderate republicans who show up and vote and who didn't vote for 45 and made them pay in Georgia. He will do ANYTHING to get back in power.

I'm not sure how many regular voters are aware of amendments to bills, though.

Ever notice how once they get elected, they turn away from the People and make it a war between what they want and the opposition? They don't seem to notice people anymore. We cease to be a part of the government until they need our votes.
I personally don't care if some illegal immigrant gets money to feed their kid. I just don't. We will be feeding everyone before the ship is righted.
Meanwhile, Turtle Man (Senate MINORITY Leader Turtle Man) seems to think that he is still Number One. He's not. They lost. The Georgia Peaches took care of that.
So, this infighting is either 1) distraction from Trump's trial, or 2) a power trip by the Repubs. Cause it sure isn't real concern over the economy. If they cared about the economy, they would be screaming, "Where do we sign!"
I dunno. I think McConnell is evil. Here he is broadcasting with impunity the fact that he intends to disrupt the Dem agenda no matter what it is, just like he declared he would during Obama's tenure. Not too hard to see that that's the plan.
The problem for him is that life is not normal. We are in the midst of a pandemic post Trump, and everything is upside down. His red states are likely to be hurting every bit as much as blue states, and his people will be wondering why they didn't get their $1,400 when it would have saved them a world of hurt.
You know that this will be brought up for midterms. "I didn't want you to get your money! Vote for me!" Uh huh...

(22,791 posts)What a concept! I guess when you're the minority party in both Houses of Congress you actually have to abide by the results of a majority vote. Who knew?

(14,642 posts)I live in a very red part of a red state and I can tell you that all the Trumpers cared about with the last stimulus payment was that they got it. And they thought they got it from their god, MF45, directly. They didn't care who else got one.
Yes, I know illegal immigrants can't get them, and people are stupid to believe him. Still, as long as they get their $1,400, they'll be happy. Only thing is that they'll still be convinced that it was left over from MF45. You really can't fix stupid.
