In an evening speech at parliament, economic development minister Stuart Nash said immigration will pivot to people with critical skills and investors with the money for large, long-term investments. Immigration minister Kris Faafoi was supposed to deliver the speech but is unwell.
In recent weeks the Labour government has said that immigrants have been responsible for driving down wages and pressures on the countrys infrastructure and housing. Tonight, Nash made it clear that the high levels of migration seen in recent years is no longer welcome.
When our borders fully open again, we cant afford to simply turn on the tap to the previous immigration settings. That path is a continuation of pressures on our infrastructure and downward pressure on wages. Since the borders closed, weve seen a reversal in the horticulture sector, for example, where theres been a lift in wages to bring in local workers, said Nash.

(835 posts)Looks as though the Illuminati, Bilderbergers, Kochs or Mercers (et al - that type of ilk) are setting up this world to become the equivalent of the feudal dark ages.
Lock up the boundaries of each "Nation State" - no immigration, no emigration - keep a ruling faction in each which will deal with other Nation States while using their "natural citizens" as "indentured servants" paid just enough to keep alive, but no more.
Set up an internal system of laws determined by the Lords and Ladies in charge.
Of course, disputes will occur and some of the Feudal Lords will make very limited, but long term war on each other using their expendables to fight for whatever cause (to keep the population just low enough and uneducated to prevent rebellion but high enough to be able to work for minimum existence).
Growth will be limited to each Nation State with local advances in science etc. limited to themselves or newly formed allies but available to other Lords who could pay for the tech..
Trade will continue for food and necessities but there will be limited distribution to the Nation States common inhabitants but not the "royals", of course!
The start of the 100 year "War of the Posers."
