New January 6 bodycam videos show police trying to help a trampled Trump supporter being brutally beaten with flagpoles and batons by mob
Tom Porter 6 minutes ago
New video footage released by the Justice Department shows police officers who were reportedly trying to help a Trump supporter during the January 6 insurrection being brutally attacked by rioters.
The footage is from bodycams worn by Washington DC police officers and was released by the Justice Department after CNN, NBC4, and other news outlets sued for access.
In court documents in the prosecution of rioters allegedly involved in the attack, the officers in the footage are identified only by initials.

The footage shows officers, identified as AW and BM in a tunnel area outside the Capitol.

you've captured their very essence, the single ideology they share: savage violence for violence' sake.
When the insurrection happened live, I noted on FB the historic significance of breaching the Capitol, with mock Essay prompt for history class, a simple compare and contrast to The Iranian Embassy, or Benghazi, the point being GOP hypocrisy.
A guy I went to high school with chimed in with typical off topic whataboutery and he actually said if I persisted (with posting memes?) I would "face his wrath."
Big guy. O-line. Used to be a sweet guy 30 years ago. WOuld "bounce" at parties. I asked what wrath looked like--would he type harder, or use more caps? We have 60+ shared friends from school.
in the conversation that ensued (I'll teach him to play golf, he'll buy me a beer when I visit Boise--one to one is better than preaching), two things stood out: he never mentioned TFG, the GOP, or anything "political," and he said "He and his boys loved to bounce--gave them free access to parties, put them in charge of the keg, and "we could fight for free."
Gen X dudes who worked for, then took over or branched out from their father's construction or real estate businesses, Gentlemen's C students who cared just enough about school to make grades to play ball. Long past their Friday Night Lights heroics, and looking for a free pass to beat the crap out of someone, anyone. They're drawn to the violence.
TFG turned thoughtful politics into WWE TV Wrestling spectacle, ginning up racial animosity and making it OK to act out like toddlers.

(42,862 posts)HORRIBLE AMBIGUOUS HEADLINE!! It sounds as though the Trump supporter was being beaten. Why was the trampled Trump supporter being brutally beaten with flagpoles and batons
BAD:
"... videos show police trying to help a trampled Trump supporter being brutally beaten with flagpoles and batons by mob"
COULD EASILY MEAN:
"... videos show police trying to help a trampled Trump supporter who was being brutally beaten with flagpoles and batons by mob"
COULD ALSO MEAN:
"... videos show police trying to help a trampled Trump supporter while they were being brutally beaten with flagpoles and batons by mob"
BETTER:
"... videos show police being attacked by mob when they were trying to help a trampled Trump supporter"
BEST:
"... videos show mob attacking police who were trying to help a trampled Trump supporter"
Well, it's the best I could come up with... but I'm not a professional writer or editor. One would imagine that the folks who earn a living doing this kind of stuff could write headlines that were less ambiguous.

(47,376 posts)Who on earth writes some of these headlines? And what kind of editor allows such word salad to be published? Well, that is assuming that there is an editor.

(6,265 posts)beaten while trying to help a supporter of the mafia don stay in power...I remember this woman in the first hours of the Insurrection and coup attempt. I bet she regretted even being there. Cudo's to the police for trying to save her life as her savage mindless compatriots trampled her to death...

(1,523 posts)I may be wrong . . but . . . this article is posted in the breaking news section which requires that the headline of the original article be posted verbatim. Or something like that.

(5,523 posts)My criticism was aimed at the originator of the headline. How confusing to someone learning English. The rest of my post was aimed at those of us, me included, who type a message without proofreading.

(47,376 posts)It was confusing to me. I reread it several times before I could figure out what they were trying to say. How did that person get through English class?
I agree about DUers proofreading what they write before clicking "Post my reply". I've caught myself making some ridiculous mistakes that often change the entire meaning of the post. Unfortunately, there are times when I don't catch my mistakes until someone points it out to me.

(16,829 posts)Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., described the pro-Trump rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 as people who truly respect law enforcement and loved this country in a radio interview Friday and expressed worry if the mob had been Black Lives Matter protesters or Antifa members.
Johnson said he "never felt threatened" as thousands of rioters broke through barricades, forcing Congress to evacuate parts of the building and abruptly pause a ceremonial event affirming that President-elect Joe Biden won the November election. In one dramatic moment, police officers drew guns as rioters tried to break into the House chamber. The day left several dead, including a police officer, and more than 100 other officers injured.

(1,523 posts)My daughter is an attorney in a white-shoe DC law firm; she lives in a Capitol Hill townhouse. Two guys with whom she graduated from high school are fairly senior Capitol Police officers -- she talks with them fairly often.
Both of them were in the midst of the terrorist attack, both were injured, one still not back on duty. Neither of them wants to talk about their experience. One guy did talk with her a few weeks ago; she related the conversation to me, I'm a veteran of two tours in Vietnam, in the bush, in gunfight after gunfight -- I could hardly stand to listen to her description of what these CP officers went through -- how they did not open fire is beyond me.
Meanwhile -- how about we no longer refer to the events of Jan 6 as an "insurrection" -- it was a TERRORIST ATTACK pure and simple with the aim of destroying our Constitution. "Islamic terrorists" have attacked life and property -- domestic terrorists are attacking our foundation. "Islamic terrorists" are a disease of the skin -- these home-grown terrorists are an incurable cancer on our vital organs.
