New poll shows Nina Turner's lead shrinking in Ohio special election

Nina Turner opened an early lead in this summers hotly contested Ohio special election but the progressive heavyweight might not be running away with it.
A new internal poll by her top competitor, Cuyahoga County Democratic Chair Shontel Brown, suggests the Democratic primary race has tightened. In the survey, conducted in early July, Turner led with 43 percent, followed by Brown with 36 percent.
That 7-point gap is a much closer spread than earlier polling from both candidates. An April survey from Brown's campaign found her trailing Turner by 32 points, 42 percent to 10 percent. And Turners late May poll showed her with 50 percent of the vote, up 35 points over Brown.
But the election has been ramping up ahead of the Aug. 3 primary, as the candidates and their allies launch competing TV ads and endorsements. Both women are vying to replace Marcia Fudge, who left the deep-blue northeast Ohio seat to join the Biden administration.

(259 posts)then the lead began to shrink and then it disappeared, same thing is going to happen here. Nina was running on name recognition and now its fading.

(101,714 posts)The more Dems hear about her attempts to sabotage the Democratic Party, her disgusting comments toward Biden, and all the rest, I think that lead will disappear.

For most people, the positions aren't remembered as much as the popular names.

This a joke, right?
We know George loves to talk about AOC. That's about it.

(22,911 posts)Wiley had been running way back in the field, behind other candidates deemed "progressive". She ended up the next to last person eliminated under the ranked voting system used, just barely being edged out by the woman who ultimately came in second, who then very narrowly lost to the ultimate winner in the final tally.

(52,129 posts)In a race with over 10 candidates she finished 2nd in initial preference 9 pts out of first, 1.7 out of 3rd. As stated above she was the 3rd candidate remaining and that was a very narrow margin. That isn't a landslide by any reasonable measure.

I do not care about the endorsement of AOC. I am not only one who think that the NY mayor's race has diminished the value (if there was any value) of an endorsement by AOC

In the first round of voting in the primary, Ocasio-Cortez endorsed progressive candidate Maya Wiley and ranked Scott Stringer as her second choice. Neither candidate even advanced to the final round, where Adams faced off against Kathryn Garcia in a close contest.
While Ocasio-Cortez remains wildly popular in her district, the mayoral race indicates that her influence may not extend far beyond that. Her congressional district is located in areas of the Bronx and Queens. According to a map of unofficial results from the first round of voting published by Gothamist, the Bronx overwhelmingly supported Adams, and while Wiley fared better in Queens her support was largely limited to the western part of the borough while the rest was mainly split among Adams, Garcia and Andrew Yang.
It remains to be seen whether the failure to draw voters to her progressive cause in her own boroughs let alone New York City as a whole could impact Ocasio-Cortez's decision on where her career could take her next.
We will see what happens in the OH 11. I trust and would value the endorsement of Hillary, Clyburn, the CBC and Marcia Fudge's mon over the endorsement of AOC that then I again I was at the 2016 National Convention and saw Turner's blowup at not being allowed to speak

(52,129 posts)Wiley clearly improved greatly post AOC endorsement. She not only finished 2nd in the first round but narrowly missed going to that final round. And Stringer got accused of sexual harassment after the AOC endorsement. Yes Adams won. But he didn't win anything like a landslide which was the original contention. I also think it is exceptionally hard to say the AOC endorsement wasn't helpful.

(49,825 posts)Out of over $3 million in donations, why that's a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of her donations! Shocking. Just shocking.
Imagine people would be angry if Shontel Brown took money from Republicans. Oh, wait, she did.
Republicans. Jimmy and Dee Haslam, owners of the Cleveland Browns, gave $5,800 each. Richard K. Smucker, chairman of The J.M. Smucker Co. in Orrville, gave $2,900. Welty President and CEO Donzell Taylor, the ex-husband of Republican former Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, gave Brown $2,900.

(67,782 posts)....her own pledge herself. It's the principle behind it, not the amount. As the saying goes, "good for thee, not for me", right?
None of those republican contributors to Brown's campaign are corporate lobbyists, are they? PLUS, they're all from OH-11, not outside the district OR the state of Ohio.
There's nothing wrong with ANY Democratic candidates taking money from republicans, the more the merrier.
progressoid
(49,825 posts)So as long as you don't break your pledge, taking 1000 bucks from the director of a progressive pac is bad. But taking even more money from right wingers is Okey dokey.
Got it.
George II
(67,782 posts)....badgered all the other primary candidates to abide by HER pledge. And she's been using the fact that some did NOT "take the pledge" as a criticism in her fundraising emails.
Don't you find that ironic?

(49,825 posts)The 1000 bucks was from this guy at Amare Public Affairs

This money also came from him personally, not the PAC.

You may want to look into the "affairs" of Mercury Public Affairs and their client list. If I were a progressive candidate they would be among the last with whom I'd associate myself.

(49,825 posts)It's fine.
Similarly, we were told on numerous occasions during the primaries that candidates receiving money from employees of wall street or credit card companies is fine. They are just employees and don't represent their employers predatory actions.
It's all good.

(7,990 posts)I'm sorry, but I will never forget or forgive her support of third-party candidates over Democrats. She helped elect trump and gave us this conservative Supreme Court that will try to undo every good thing Democrats work for.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)She didn't even want to run as a Democrat until her "People's Party" couldn't get onto the Ohio ballot. So, now she's running "as" a Democrat as a last-resort. She has no loyalty to Democrats or Democratic leadership (her support of Jill Fucking Stein in 2016 and her refusal to support Biden... along with comparing him to a "bowl of shit'') well, what more does anyone need to know about her?

(46,793 posts)She really needs to get out of politics. It is not a good fit for her and her public persona comes across as angry and temperamental. Some people just do not do well in the public arena. If she really wants to be part of progressive change, there are other paths she could take, but maybe this is more about ego than change.

In any case... it's my firm belief that anyone who supported Jill Fucking Stein over Hillary; and who would not support Joe Biden; and who compared Joe Biden to a "bowl of shit" ... well, that person is PERMANENTLY DISQUALIFIED from ever holding office as a Democrat.
Her contempt for the Democratic party is so obvious. Comparable with Susan Fucking Sarandon.
I mean, seriously... come ON! She couldn't support Biden over TRUMP??? She couldn't support Hillary over TRUMP???

(42,862 posts)Here's Nina at some bullshit "People's Party Convention" (or something) singing the praises of Jill Stein and getting all huggy with her.
The youtube link is below. Jill makes her appearance near the 22-minute mark (This link will take you to the Youtube video and automatically advance to the point where she's all huggy/kissy with Jill Fucking Stein.
It's clear that Nina Turner is NOT a friend of the Democratic party. She's bitter about the Democrats choice, and in a fit of revenge-motivate anti-party retribution, she's doing her best to sabotage Hillary so that Trump will get the presidency.
She's only running "as" a Democrat this time because there wasn't enough time to get "The People's Party" on the ballot in Ohio. This time, she's using the party that she hates only as a means-to-an-end. She's grudgingly running as a Democrat.
No thank you very much. I prefer candidates who are LOYAL DEMOCRATS and who do their level best to unite and uplift the party (not divide and weaken). That serves no good purpose, does it?
When she compared Joe Biden to a "BOWL OF SHIT" she disqualified herself forever.
