The police said they were investigating the shooting and that there appeared to be no ongoing threat. The police did not immediately provide information about the conditions of the victims, but said that two had walked into hospitals for treatment.

(18,497 posts)I don't think you'd have even heard gunshots that happened outside a noisy stadium otherwise.
And broadcast booths are usually sealed to outside noise.
It may have just reverberated through an entrance tunnel in the building somehow.
It is really fortunate that people were not injured or even killed in that panicked stampede.

(45,473 posts)The broadcast booth at Nats park is an the top of the stadium behind home plate. It is open to the field, but has a sliding glass window wall that can be closed if the weather gets bad.
You have to go thru metal detectors to enter the stadium.
People panicking almost created a bigger disaster.

(18,497 posts)The gun shots had to have been amplified through one of those concrete tunnels somehow.
It is very fortunate that the panic did not lead to a bigger tragedy.

Another site said Tattis sprinted across the field and into the fans to save his family and friends, scooping up children, and apparently leading others to safety as well.
Just when I thought I couldn't admire our All Star player anymore, he does this.
This comes, by the way, after a game the night before in which the Padres scored 24 runs to beat the Nationals.
Major media now reports 4 people were shot, 2 made it to a hospital on their own, others were transported conscious and breathing including a stadium employee.
How terrifying for the teams and fans alike -- I hope they find the shooter. We so need to get guns out of the hands of wackos.

Especially among the nearly 40% of adults who still don't have their two doses.

Besides the anti-vaxer problem, we're in for a long winter if people aren't more cautious (i.e. wearing masks in the stores, avoiding large and unnecessary gatherings, etc.).
