Face Mask With Swastikas Sold at Florida Shell Gas Station
Source: Newsweek
A Shell gas station in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was selling face masks with a design featuring swastikas and other Nazi symbols, according to a story from local news station WPLG on Thursday.
A customer named Kelly Wagner told local news station WPLG that she had spotted the masks at a Shell station located at 6201 Powerline Road. A reporter for the station traveled to the gas station and purchased one of the masks, noting that it was the only one there.
Wagner said that she had asked the woman behind the counter at the gas station if Shell was "actually selling swastika face masks."
She claimed that the employee told her that the store sold "what it is that they give us to sell."

(7,805 posts)vile masks is just getting started...why stop at nazi symbols of Jewish genocide, how about black/hispanic/Native American/asian/muslim racial and ethnic epithets? ..and then there's LGBTQ, the elderly and the disabled...oh, the money they will make!!

(16,281 posts)I think Shell is probably going to have something to say about this, and soon. No major corporation that gives a damn about their public image is going to want to be associated with something like this.
Germany had the right idea when they outlawed this kind of crap. It's literally illegal over there to sell merchandise with Nazi symbols. And rightly so.

(9,944 posts)... Shell will see this story in their communications division and STOP this quickly. Corporations have recognized which "side" is correct... and if they haven't, they know which customer-base is larger.
... I have relatives in Florida and they recognize how many negative stories seem to come out of the state... they need new leadership!

I've lived in Florida 25+ years. The crazy that is Florida started long before Rubio, TFG and DeSenseless showed up. Today it's at its peak and is likely to stay there. There's no one this class can't outspend and out-bullshit.
Here are just a few of trumpcult billionaire donors of Florida that are among the most batshit of the wealth class. Google them. They are serious proof that being a billionaire never, ever indicates that one is moral, knowledgeable or even in possession of common sense.
-- Steve Schwarzman (part-time Palm Beacher on the NYPublic Library Board, who wants to sell off NY's public libraries),
-- Scientology nut Patricia Duggan in St Petersburg,
-- Ike Perlmutter, Palm Beach, benefactor to Rubio and DeSantis, who saved Marvel Entertainment but was booted for weirdness; he's TFG's VA shadow ruler at club mar-a-lago who VoteVets are currently suing for his policy role in the VA;
-- Julie Jenkins, Greg Fancelli, Lakeland Big Lie believers; former head of the Trump foundation;
-- David Centner, Miami, TFG's guests at the Ellipse, friends of anti-vaxxer RFK, Jr., demanded no one mask at their Miami school; call covid a hoax and promote maskless freedom; the Centners started the bullshit conspiracy that merely being around other vaccinated people can cause reproductive problems in women;
Thomas Petterffy Palm Beach, Florida's richest billionaire, from Hungary, rabid anti-socialist, contributor to Republicans
Of some 33 trump donors, these are just the ones I've taken the time to find out about.

(35,933 posts)Like Koch says, "I don't pay them in the hope they'll share my policy desires, I pay them to say exactly what I tell them to say." That's how ALEC got operationalized across statehouses.
and b) their paid influencers online, so that there is the appearance of a movement.

I already said I'm never going to visit that hellhole again. But are you not even going to try to lure me back? With some, you know, human behavior?

(787 posts)Parents and sister still live in Florida. Unless I can convince them to go almost literally anywhere else (except Texas), I will have to make occasional visits. Moved out of Florida when I was 27, haven't looked back. Best decision I ever made.
Justice matters.

took me to the living room to show me the color photo of her son killed in WWII. It was on the top of the TV.
She had other children (one my father-in-law) still living. She had to introduce me to Leroy.
Swastikas?

(18,973 posts)I live in MI, done a lot of driving through small towns in Northern MI. Flags with Swastikas on them are rarer now than they were in the 90s, but you still see them from time to time. I've also seen them driving country roads in the Midwest, and down South.
I don't get it, it's not just white supremacists who fly them, some do just to be "contrarians" and are going for shock value. It's not rare to see a Trump flag next to the Swastika flag these last few years.
I remember seeing a Flea Market where a whole stand was Nazi gear and flags. I am a bigger dude and bald, so I just shave my head, and I have some facial hair. So I've been mistaken by skinheads as one of their own before. And the guy working the stand must have thought my shaved head meant something because he called to me, "Hey brother, big discount if you're interested." I was offended, but came up with a snappy comeback, I said, "No thanks, my grandfather lost his hearing and a leg killing Nazi scum in World War 2 and I'd never go against my country by buying that garbage." These people have the nerve to claim patriotism too all the while honoring the biggest enemies to America of the 20th century.
They don't get it, they're the ones who are anti American, just as mainstream Republicans are too because they're against Democracy now and without Democracy America is no more.

(12,640 posts)Shell only cares that the owner sells Shell gas and auto products, and maybe, partner products they have distribution contracts with (PepsiCo, Nabisco, Yum,etc...). Other than the required products, the stores can sell anything else they choose to sell, especially in those impulse buy end caps near the cash register that items like boner and hangover pills, inspirational "angel bracelets", and cheap sunglasses.
If they're selling Nazi paraphernalia, that's what the owner or GM decided to sell when the local junk stuff vendor came by to sell.
On edit -chances are once Shell finds out, that store will no longer be a Shell distributor.
