Campaign to recall (WIS) Speaker Fitzgerald announces delivery of 123 percent of needed signatures

What me worry?

"Honest government cannot be ignored." - Lori compas

Dane101.com

Leaders of the independent campaign to recall Sen. Scott Fitzgerald have filed petitions containing 20,600 signatures to trigger a recall election of the Senate Majority Leader, one of the chief proponents of Scott Walker’s controversial budget policies.

The number puts the campaign at 124 percent of the signatures needed to bring a recall against Fitzgerald - the minimum number required is 16,742.

Lori Compas, a small business owner and mother of two from Fort Atkinson, said that most of the constituents who signed the petitions were not motivated by partisan politics. “More than 20,600 of his own constituents—Republican, Democrat, and independent alike—signed a recall petition because Scott Fitzgerald stopped listening to them,” she said. “Individually they were not heard; together, their call for open, honest government cannot be ignored.”

According to Compas, the next step for the district will be to identify a candidate to oppose Sen. Fitzgerald in a recall election. “Recalling Scott Fitzgerald is supported by people throughout the political spectrum, and I fully expect that the citizens of SD13 will have a robust and engaging conversation about who should replace him,” said Compas. “We look forward to the day when we have more honorable representation in our state senate.”

"We gave them no resources. The Democratic Party didn't lift a finger for them. Yet in a red district, they were able to…trigger a recall. Without any organization they were able to do this. It says something about the anger that's out there."

As Senate Majority Leader, Fitzgerald was a key player in pushing Gov. Scott Walker's controversial proposal to eliminate collective bargaining rights for most public workers. He and other GOP leaders continued to support passage despite massive protests at the state Capitol and lawsuits contesting the process.

Lori Compas, chairperson of the Committee to Recall Scott Fitzgerald, called the number of signatures collected "overwhelming and decisive."

"More than 20,600 of his own constituents -- Republican, Democrat, and independent alike -- signed a recall petition because Scott Fitzgerald stopped listening to them," Compass, a business owner from Fort Atkinson, said in a news release. "Individually they were not heard; together, their call for open, honest government cannot be ignored."

According to the statutes the earliest would be late March ...without the delaying tactics which no doubt attempts will be made.

Scott Walker Banks on AIG Mogul to Fight Recall

By Andy Kroll
Tue Jan. 17, 2012 8:10 AM PST

On Tuesday afternoon, Grassroots groups and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin will unveil their signature haul in the effort to recall Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch. They need at least 540,208 signatures to trigger recall elections for Walker and Kleefsich, but it's clear they've easily surpassed that mark.

So where will Walker be when the final signature tally is announced? In the state capital or the governor's mansion, standing his ground and defending his record? Nope. He'll be in New York City at the world headquarters of the megabank Citigroup raising money for his recall defense effort.

Tuesday's Walker fundraiser, first reported by the New York Daily News, is hosted by no less than Hank Greenberg, the former CEO of American International Group, the global insurance corporation that needed $150 billion in bailout funds in 2008 and 2009 from the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve. The cost of attending is $2,500 per person or $5,000 per couple.

He is the lynchpin of the Walker regime. If both he and Walker are removed, the restoration of our great state can truly begin. May we never be so complacent as we were prior to the 2010 Tea Party takeover. All citizens must be vigilant to protect our rights on a daily basis going forward. I am amazed at the tireless dedication of Ms. Compas, and thousands of other amazing, focused individuals across the state. I have seen the hard work that has been taking place in Eau Claire, WI virtually every day, and I am so proud to be a part of our County Democratic Party.

I felt great pride signing that recall, with my young son watching me. I told him I wanted him to see Democracy in action. I told him if an elected official is not doing their job, which is to represent their constituents, then they can lose their job. I do believe he will lose his job soon.
