Ron DeSantis' Approval Rating Tanks as COVID Delta Variant Ravages Florida

Source: Newsweek

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' approval rating tumbled to 43.7 percent in a new poll published on Wednesday, as the state grapples with a surge in cases of COVID driven by the highly transmissible Delta variant.

The survey from St. Pete Polls was conducted on August 2-3 and it shows the Republican governor losing re-election in a hypothetical matchup with Representative Charlie Crist, a Democrat who represents Florida's 13th congressional district.

Respondents were asked whether they approved of the job DeSantis is doing and 48.3 percent said they didn't approve, while 43.7 percent said they did. This represents a significant decline since a Florida Chamber of Commerce poll in May showed the governor's approval at 55 percent.

When asked if masks "should be required for all children" when the state's schools reopen, 62 percent said they should be, 31.9 percent said they should not and 6.1 percent were unsure.

At the same time, do not underestimate the power of right wing media, including Fox, NewsMax, OANN, Alex Jones, etc., to stir up outrage and racism among Republicans. The Republican Talking Point will be that Biden utterly failed to protect Republicans from the bullshit and misinformation spread by Republicans and Republicans died as a result!

Yeah, it is sort of like a serial killer running for Sheriff on the platform that the Sheriff failed to stop his killing spree, but when you have billion dollar backers and a whole right wing media bubble, Republicans might be successful in failing their way to victory.

Plan A was to scary everyone from thanking the vaccine they wanted to see the same Covid numbers that we saw last year...They just didnt anticipate Democrats would actually follow the medical professionals instead of Republican taking point, when their base started getting sick and dying they had to back track but ow they have lose control and their base wont listen to reason ... Their monster is out of control and will eventually come after them...

probably because the sauna0like climate cooks their brains.

Cases are nearly at last winter's peak. Vaccinations have finally picked up in the lower parts of the state, but the panhandle is still firmly part of the "nobody gonna tell ME what to do" deep south.

Let's hoipe the awful realization that Florida Republicans represent only their own interests sinks in sooner, rather than later.

...a governor can't rely on the anachronism like the EC.
One has to be popular, with folks approving of the job you're doing IN IUST THAT STATE.
Either people like you as a governor or they don't.
Become unpopular, and you're toast.
Happened to Rauner here in Illinois.
Won a close race. Got 50% +/- a point or two for 2 years. His approval slid consistently for about 20 months.
Pritzker beat him in 2018 by more than 16%.
Rauner had no chance at a second term, by around May of that year.

Whether it's presidential polls, polls on approval/disapproval, or what "the public thinks/feels.

Remembering that @ 40% are die-hard tRumpf cult stooges, and probably another 40% are die hard progressive/liberals...there is ALWAYS going to be that 40% that don't move, no matter what.

Desantis has an approval rating of 43-4%...he will ALWAYS have that 40% that will never move...regardless if he runs naked through the city setting churches and synagogues on fire while chasing after 14 year old girls.

I just find these polls disheartening. I realize seeing a 12% drop in rating is significant. I just can't get too excited because so long as he has that 40% of Cuban-American cult stooge support, he is a viable threat for re-election.

Dan Gelber, the mayor of Miami Beach, coined the term as Florida continued to set records for new cases and hospitalizations, recorded worrying increases in both deaths and rates of positivity, and led the nation in pediatric Covid admissions.

But Gelber said he thought DeSantis’s stance could backfire and end up hurting businesses.

“I’m the mayor of a hospitality town. I think most people coming here would rather be in a place that they feel safer than a place that they feel like they may be getting the virus,” he told CNN.

“He’s like the Pied Piper, just leading everybody off a cliff right now, letting them know that they don’t have to like the CDC, they don’t have to wear masks, they can do whatever they want in the midst of an enormous pandemic – and Florida, by wide margins, is easily the worst state in the country.”

For all the misery and death he's caused, he should be polling 0.02 (his immediate family)

Voters, especially Florida voters, have short memories. If the delta variant burns itself out, or Jeebus performs a miracle in his nightly lounge act, they'll forget all about it in 2 months, and elect more right-wing death-cult republicans.

Screw DeSatan and the horse he rode in on.

masks to prevent the spread of this virus has, in my opinion, destroyed his political career forever.
In order to play up to Trump, DeSantis shot himself in the very middle of his head..straight on
